The comic for the discerning literary critic who'd already been saying that Palahniuk is just playing to type in order to keep his devoted fan-base around!
So I guess they're not even trying to make the two of them look anything like Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter? Is that a legal issue? Did they not get the rights to use their distinctive likenesses in adaptations in the original film contract?
Anyway, this seems stupid to me. It seems as though the basis for this sequel is that the characters decided to do something stupid just for excitement. Kind of how the entire plot of season two of Heroes got kicked off when Hiro decided he needed adventure, so he opened the safe that his father had told him never to open no matter what. Here, unless I'm missing something, it looks as though the whole plot is happening because Marla decided to cut her husband's meds just because she wanted some excitement. Well, I guess she got some. And where does she get off saying she could bash in his brains when he reveals that Tyler is the kidnapper? Who cut his meds again?
Moreover, Fight Club had something to say. It may have been a stupid thing to say, but at least it had something to say (if you want a pretty good explanation of why its message was stupid, check out the Honest Trailer for Fight Club). What does this comic have to say?
No they can't use anything to do with the film for legal reasons. This is a sequel to the book.
There's more to it than just Marla cutting the meds that I haven't posted. His psychiatrist is also secretly working with Tyler for his own benefit and helping him come to surface.
