On the one hand, I dig that they're trying to make him distinct from Superman as a character. On the other, it is being a bit grim. Especially as the whole "I was made for evil, but I choose to do good!" aspect makes him much more analogous to Marvel's Vision.
you know what I've just realized. The next writer can totally undo this, with them just saying this is the false memory. We should encourage them to do that
This would have so much more emotional resonance if they hadn't kept him sidelined for so much of the New 52. Was he really part of the Justice League, and if so, how long? How long was he part of Stormwatch before he quit them? How long was he part of the JLA before he quit -them-?
What we've seen of J'Onn in this new era is a guy who can't stay on a team to save his life, not a mainstay or emotional core of the Justice League. So having him be all weepy over this doesn't jibe with his sparse characterization and presentation... they're trying to bank on the remaining goodwill of fans from the previous universe.
I'm glad he's gotten a series again, I just think this isn't the right approach. Sigh.
yeah. they keep bringing this supposedly emotional scenes, but because a lot of their weight depends on the old DCU, it doesn't work. they did this changes to this characters at the start of the reboot, and now said changes are blowing in their faces.
Why are they putting out a Doomsday character who's essentially Miles Morales with Peter Parker's family? Why are they making Dr. Fate a teenager with Egyptian emigrant parents?
Not saying those are bad things, per se, but would they have come about at all if Marvel hadn't set the precedent?
I haven't been keeping up with DC so I couldn't tell you, and honestly I have no idea what your talking about. II'm talking about DC suddenly making Martian Manhunter origin more like Vision laughable. For years I've heard the jokes of how Vision is a Martian Manhunter clone even though it never made sense so to see DC have J'ohnn copy Vision's origins is kinda sad.
