"He's something unique in this world, where we want dark, brooding heroes. And certainly, those are great too. But we can have something else. We can have this character who's had these bad events happen to him that normally make a Daredevil or a Batman, but they aren't lingered on. He's moved on, and loves what he is. He's found a way to love what he is, and that phrase, that sentence is something I think we all struggle with as humans. And it's obviously something we struggle with as we go through the steps of coming out in the queer community, so that nugget is what made the character for me." -- Steve Orlando

...which is to say, that the most adjusted superhero in DCnu is a sociopath.

Thanks DC!

But that's not all what he is saying. He's certainly not saying Midnighter is the most adjusted superhero in the DCU, which he isn't.

This is saying that Midnighter doesn't allow that tragic moment to define him and he has embraced what he is, which in this case is a highly violent individual.

In a way I personally disliked the slight dig at Batman and Daredevil there, but I at least understood that is just a writer talking about his project.

So, he's Nightwing?

He's found a way to love what he is, and that phrase, that sentence is something I think we all struggle with as humans. And it's obviously something we struggle with as we go through the steps of coming out in the queer community

What? Too soon?

That jab at Daredevil....he does realize Matt is a blind superhero, right?

and? it has no bearing on what he said... just because Matt is blind doesn't exclude him from being written badly. as a dark and broody hero with nothing more to him than being dark and broody.

(although, HIM being dark and broody and full of guilt is actually good writing from a catholic angle, as a catholic myself it's relatable. )

but as far as that comment... Matt's character does not revolve around him being blind. it's a facet of his character. what DOES revolve around his cahracter is the fact he is (as merideth grey-Shepard would say) dark and twisty. which is limiting to a character.

I'm liking what I see. But I'm still holding out for a few more issues to see how it goes.

If it wasn't for that bit about the queer community, that quote could just as easily apply to Deadpool.

Deadpool is canon bi (well, if you read Cable and Deadpool; its impossible to see either of those two as completely hetero in that book, even if they never did the dance-with-no-pants on panel), so he counts.

Maybe not for long, given Axel Alonso's recent (mind boggling) comments on Hercules, and Marvel's odd turn as of the upcoming relaunch.

No Midnighter, you aren't "on route" and an editor should have spotted that.

hmmm i like this series *breaks coffee mug* i'll have another.

it's nice seeing a "hero" who is dark, but still has fun (and not in the "Kick-Ass" way.... ugh... so much needless carnage)

I can't tell which is ballsier, taking a date out in a public Moscow restaurant, or wearing a U.S. flag tank top while doing it :P
