Fat Boy isn't really that bad as far as a soulless corporate symbol in an American dystopia. He's totally up front with you about "you at my restaurant and you will gain weight".
Have to say, I like this, I think it's pretty good. Frank Miller has a way of creating such ugly and corrupt worlds, which fit perfectly into dystopia's like this. It's why Batman: Year One is (to me) so good, because you see how corrupt and horrible gotham city is that such drastic action like a vigilante seems reasonable.
The problem with Frank's work is that he normally frames this corrupt world as needing to be saved by worse things. It's like in the despair he creates any solution looks like the right solution, even if that solution is bad (look at Dark Knight Strikes Again, All-Star... etc.). He makes the smart (and surprisingly diverse) choice of having a hopeful and (ultimately) good character be the protagonist here, instead of someone who becomes the darkness they're trying to defeat. In fact, the President seems to be a subversion of his normal solution, where someone becomes mean and bitter over trying to fix a broken system, and turns into a monster because of it.
That being said, the Gay Nazis are a REALLY weird choice, since the impact would've been the same if they were just regular nazis, and the result looks really ignorant and insulting, but... no, I don't really have a defense for that one. (At least they were in the background? (Maybe their just a propaganda threat that doesn't actually exist, but that's wishful thinking))You were doing so well Frank!
FYI, there's a sequence not posted here where Martha has to fight off the Aryan Thrust when they're trying to hijack the laser cannon, that kicks off the rest of the events shown here.
There's a lot of leather and a golden dildo involved. (and have you noticed how the laser space cannon looks like a big ol' dick?)
I'm actually finding this really interesting, which that makes me all the more disappointed that the second miniseries is apparently heavily inspired by Atlas Shrugged.
