Time for another look at another Image Comic, Shutter. Here's the first issue. The first half of the book looks at our heroine, Kate Kristopher, and her past with her father.





20 years later...

This feels like a much more pleasant and relatable Elsa Bloodstone. I like it, kinda?

Definitely better than the film "Shutter".

Is that an evil Tik-Tok Man? Huh, wonder if that reference plays into this story.

I think there aren't any genuinely overt references over than visual ones and some naming patterns, from what I recall, but some designs are definitely meant to recall classic characters. I've seen it argued somewhere that some designs for the rat characters appearing in the next issue are based on Warhammer's Skaven, particularly their use of crystals being akin to Warpstone.
