So Sunspot goes and meets with their S.H.I.E.L.D. representative, Dum Dum Dugan!







Sunspot: What part of the plan involves telling me that?

Dum Dum Dugan: The part where I don't treat you like an idiot. C'mon...





Our heroes arrive in their destination, but are quickly discovered despite their cloaking device.




What happens next?! Well... that's for a future post when the second issue arrives.

I like that Squirrel Girl tried her usual way of dealing with terrible threats from her own comic...just it's not the same kind of threat here. Stay positive, SG (and Tippy Toe, who's looking kind of feral here).

Sunspot went out drinking and gambling with a couple of the beekeepers and realized they weren't all bad guys. So he took over the company and is paying them more than he's paying his field team of Avengers or himself.

Anyone who has a problem with the new AIM is probably going to join WHISPER

Canonically, Sunspot is a much better boss than the Supreme Scientist. At least, when he tried a comeback, that was the general opinion. Sunspot: "Stock options for you all!"

The fringe who really didn't wan to get in line with the new ethcis got hired away by Ultimate Reed.

That's the thing though, as much as we might want it to be one, this really isn't a flagship title. It's close but it's still New Avengers rather than The Avengers. However good it is, it's not being marketed or treated as a flagship.

Not sure I'd agree with what. It has Avengers in it's title, that makes it a flagship title.

I'm not sure this is art I'd even put on a second string title.

I was not on board with this art until the "Awesome New Friends!" panel and Doreen's giant teeth. I think that won me over. It's different, and the waist/bust ratios are still very silly, but it has some good moments.

Probably my favorite thing about this book so far is the team member call outs in the first issue, and how Tippy Toe got one. That's right: Tippy Toe is an Avenger.

Overdone, but... Bobbys father was darker than him. We've seen his mother, an ex-model white very pale redhead type. Bobby grew up in Rio de Janeiro.

It is not unreasonable that years spent in New York would lighten him up a bit.

She's from Hickman's Avengers. Her name is Aikku Jokinen, she's the Norwegian daughter of Finnish parents, and her suit of armor is a creation of Ex Nihilo's, meant as a "planetary defense mechanism." She found it and it adapted itself to her.

I get the feeling more was supposed to be done with her, but Bobby got her away from AIM in Avengers World. Side note: she's apparently a lesbian.

I was honestly expecting him to tell Roberto the situation, but not who the mole was, to watch the team implode. Pleasantly surprised.

It actually makes sense. Dum-Dum's had a rough few years, a lot of it based around other spies being idiots/assholes. And the recent backup story over in SHIELD (Which I'm pretty sure Al wrote, actually) showed that Dum-Dum really doesn't like a lot of the modern spy nonsense. So, he warns Bobby that SHIELD is keeping an eye on him for logical reasons, introduces their liaison, and completely flips off Hill and co in the process :)

Which suggests that it's not Hawkeye, but Songbird, who is REALLY the SHIELD agent. :)

Aw, I hope not. She's been placed in that position too dang often. She deserves to straight up be running an Avengers team, at this point. She's an awesome character.

I was a little disappointed that there really wasn't anything new revealed that wasn't shown in the preview. It might be just that the preview spoiled way too much, so I ended up being a little let down.

Also, I quite like Sandoval's art for this. It's a throwback, but a pretty fun one.

Except the hands. Holy heck look at Bobby's hand in that panel when he's looking at Hawkeye!

That's a weird surname for a Norwegian, seeing as it's Finnish. Well, okay, there's a minority of Finnish descended immigrants in Norway, but I doubt that tidbit will ever find its way into the character's backstory.

From the north almost certainly. And never say never. There was this scene a couple of years back where Guy Gardner and Tora switched into Norwegian. Guy spoke perfect (ring-perfect? Those things have to have translators) Norwegian. Tora, to my delight spoke the thick dialect from the western area her character is from. Delight.

i want this.... i haven't said that about a comic in a while... (also Roberto seems like one of hte only sane ones going into, in, and out of the whole "Destruction of reality" thing... also as a mutant how is he still on earth?

also, i want this... i like that they aren't doing the whole "send in the spy thing" in hte normal way.
