I've never bought into the attempts to say that Galactus is a necessity. I know they've offered various arguments, but for me none of them work.

Really, the reason that Galactus is "necessary" is that he contributes to dramatic moments and stories. That's okay, but all the "in-story" explanations are lacking for me.

I think of Galactus as kind of like the subduction zone of a continental plate. A recycling system for the immaterial aspect of life like how death and decay recycles its material aspect. A universe with no Galactus might end up like the Cancerverse, only crowded with overburdened, monopolized planets instead of the citadel of the Many-Angled Ones.

Ignoring, of course, the astronomical distances and size of the universe, because it's not like that actually matters in a superhero world.

I've always liked it to be kept Mysterious.

Galactus is neccessary, but you can't really comprehend why and still remain human. You need to basically Transcend To Another State Of Being to comprehend, and when you come back all you know is that yes, he IS neccessary, but you couldn't explain why any more than you could explain quantum physics to an ant.

Would I be correct in thinking that the final image is setting up for an issue length "take that" directed at fans who complain about creators changing things?
