I'm actually rather surprised that nothing from this has been posted here yet, as I think we may have another potential breakout character from Marvel here in the shape of a science-loving young girl named Lunella, but thanks to this title by Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare, with Natacha Bustos on art, we are likely to know her better by another name quite soon, as one half of the promisingly weird buddy series;

Like any good comic, trimming it, or in this case deciding what to show, is a complete pain in the ass. I've had to basically excise ALL the Devil Dinosaur scenes, but since he's the better known character that's the way it had to go. Suffice to say that it's not the Nextwave evil smoking-jacket wearing Devil Dinosaur, but the original Jack Kirby created Devil Dinosaur who lived (in the nude) on an alternate prehistoric earth with his original companion Moon Boy (Who seems to not make it to the end of this first issue, so sorry for anyone for liked the hairy little, semi-simian sidekick)
We open with this scene...

Those are rejection notices from (I suspect) a number of the MU's leading science research establishments, most notably the FF's "Future Foundation" but they do wish her well in her future endeavours. And she's not letting them put her off, far from it I suspect, they're there to inspire her to work HARDER.
She's not asleep there btw, she's working on her latest project and lost track of time.
Whilst she lves science, she is NOT a fan of science class, partly because it's mostly stuff she already knows and partly because... well, you remember that teacher you had, the one who inspired you and lead you to pursue your area of expertise? Yeah, Lunella's science teacher is NOT that teacher as in this scene where she announces that today they will be discussing "the theory of evolution"

Lunella might politely be described as a misfit, not that there's anything inherently wrong with that of course, I suspect many an s_d member's childhood might have had the same adjective ascribed to it... and in some cases their adulthood too, and that's just fine, but at Lunella's age it's a tough one.

As it turns out, her Kree Detector does find something, but it's not a Kree, rather it's a fancy stone which is also a weird dimensional portal and guess who emerges.

There's some fun stuff in this issue not included here, and I would recommend picking it up, and there's an interesting interview up at io9 with writers Montclare and Reeder here
