Depending on the producer, quite a bit. Lucas, for instance, only produced the two original Star Wars sequels but had a huge hand in making them - same goes for Indiana Jones. Spielberg is similar, and Bay's fingerprints are all over this thing, from the sense of humour to the design leanings and the oversaturated colours of the cinematography, and.. Well, the gratuitous shots informing us that Megan Fox is attractive.
I'm somewhat excited for this one (namely because I liked the first movie), but I'm confused about the title. Wasn't there already a video game called 'Out of the Shadows'?
Yup. If I recall, the fight mechanics were slightly reminiscent of Arkham City. It wasn't very polished, and the Turtles had a very strange, snoutless look about them. Pretty sure it's still available digitally
It's cool to see Baxter Stockman, Krang and Bebop and Rocksteady finally make a debut in a live-action film, but sadly all the Bay tropes still seem to be there. B&R look pretty faithful to the cartoon versions though(aside from the size) How come they stayed so close to the original designs with those two, but the turtles still look like ungodly Shrek and Hulk hybrids?
This. I hated the first film... But Bebop and Rocksteady look freaking awesome here - I love that they still kept the dorky purple shades - and yet the turtles just look.... Blegh.
Well it has Stephen Amell. Pitty he has to keep his hair short for Arrow, otherwise he'd be able to look a lot more like Casey Jones.
Mixed feelings on the first one, but maybe this time, since Shredder will be Shredder from the start of production they won't have to butcher the 'story' to appease complaints.
Well, it looks more entertaining than the first film at least (and better aesthetics to).
-B&R look great (hopefully the CGI gets cleaned up though). -Shredder and Karai actually look like Shredder and Karai. -The Foot Ninja look like actually Ninja. -Stephen Amell, I like that guy and want to see him do well. -Some of the action looks well. -Baxter Stockman. -Etc.
Now, qualms:
-Still not crazy about the Turtle designs. Giving them distinct outfits doesn't really bother me, but they're still way too big, overdesigned, and just ugly looking (especially the face). -I fear that they may be overcompensating after the complaints and shoving TOO MUCH into this film (B&R, Shredder and co, Baxter Stockman, Casey Jones, Kraang, etc). -I surprisingly didn't mind Megan Fox as April in the first film. But you can see the "Bayism" here as well. Yeah, she TOTALLY needed to be wearing a Catholic schoolgirl outfit Mr. Bay.
The first movie was terrible. This will probably be terrible.
BUT, it looks like someone actually cared about making a Ninja Turtles movie this time around instead of just a loud, obnoxious, set piece-riddled cash cow of a film.
And Rocksteady is going to have an Irish accent. I am both puzzled and intrigued at this prospect.
Oh trust me, I know. When it was first announced I was kinda stoked. When Sheamus came back with the mohawk I kinda figured it was for the TMNT role, but in this trailer it's apparent that he's not Bebop.
Why is he not Bebop? They even make a mohawk crack in the trailer. I think this might be one of those rare times on the Internet where using the word ironic is actually applicable.
Because Bebop is a black guy and despite being turned into a (warthog?) hybrid, that's... taking a role away from a POC, and I like to think they learned their lesson from the clusterfuck surrounding the Shredder last time around.
I realized that that like 10 seconds after posting my comment, but I guess I was focusing more on Sheamus, his mohawk, and the irony of him not playing the character with a mohawk.
On another note, Gary Anthony Williams is perfect for the Rocksteady role. He's an actor that I've only ever recognized as a side character in anything I've seen him in, and now he's getting his chance to be the big, badass tank that he deserves.
I like Gary from the stuff I've seen him in (Whose Lines Is It Anyways and Malcolm in the Middle), but I'm surprised he was chosen for the role. Not because I think he's bad, but it feels like the type of role Kevin Michael Richardson would be doing. He's always to go to voice actor for these types of characters.
For some reason I thought Kevin Michael Richardson voiced Goliath on Gargoyles, but after a quick Google search I realize I was mistaken. He's another person who's been in everything but, for some reason, I can't place him when gus name comes up.
I did just learn that he's from The Bronx though, so I got a little hometown pride going on just now
...I feel conflicted between my desire never to watch anything Bay makes (didn't watch the first TMNT movie nor the latest 2 Transformers movies), and my desire to watch something that looks like pure 80-90s fun.
They also have Bebop and Rocksteady, probably Krang, and even the freaking Turtle Van. Nostalgia is pulling at me hard.
I think I'm actually going to watch this one.
Btw, whatever happened to white Shredder? Did they kill him in the first movie?
White Shredder, if I recall, wasn't even Shredder. Shredder was some old Japanese dude. If Internet rumors are correct, Old Japanese Dude got a hold of some mutagen and it reversed his aging process, hence him being young here.
And if it matters, Bay is just a producer and not the director. Which didn't really help the first movie, but from the looks of the trailer it seems as if he's not really on charge of this one. Someone that actually gives a shit about TMNT.
Besides the obligatory explosion-fests and April sexualization, of course.
If you're talking about William Fichtner, he was SUPPOSED to be The Shredder initially. It's even obvious when you watch the film. He's got the personal connection to the protagonists, he's got the massive business/criminal empire, he gets most of the screentime, and even his name (Eric Sacks) is clearly an "Americanization" or Oroku Saki.
But then fans complained loudly and continuously, so then they went back and did reshoots to awkwardly shoehorn in Asian Shredder. Which is ALSO obvious if you watch the film.
That actually is very obvious, nOw that you've pointed it out for me. I wasn't too interested in the back story for the first movie, but holy shit. Eric Sacks, Oruku Saki...that is hilarious. And terrible.
