In all fairness, collateral damage is unavoidable given most of the threats the Authority face.
But on the flip side, they don't seem to try to avoid collaterial as much as other teams, pick fights that they needn't and act like because they are A-list celebs, their shit don't stink and are beholden to no one.
These scenes illustrate one of the big issues I have with the Authority. I could accept that sometimes it might be necessary to use lethal force against threats. But the Authority consistently come across as swaggering and self satisfied, in love with their own power, and they enjoy the opportunity to kill their opponents.
Agreed. The Authority and most other Wildstorm 'heroes' are pretty much just villains who happen to only have eviler villains to fight. Most of the villains of the main DCU are less evil then them.
The Wildstorm heroes aren't *that* bad, it's not like they attack or take from civilians or such. They're just fairly brutal and, yea, have a ton of eviler people to fight.
Once again, I'd like to quote Mark Waid. During the time of his run on JLA (which about the same time as The Authority's popularity), he was asked whether he'd do a JLA/Authority crossover.
His answer?
"It wouldn't be much of a crossover. The first page would show The Authority being locked up by the JLA. The rest would be a JLA story."
