I still have trouble seeing the Punisher let down his guard enough to have sex at all. And if he did, I expect it to be a very focused, passionless, machine-like endeavor, in which he finds physical release but never emotional satisfaction. His technique is flawless, and the girls never complain, but he sure as hell doesn't cuddle afterwards. For the Punisher, sex is just another weapon in his arsenal, used to get closer to mob bosses and pimps as he kills his way up the ladder of crime and corruption.
And now I want to see THE PUNISHER: SEX CHRONICLES. Tagline: He fucks like he kills: one target at a time.
I find it harder to believe that anyone would WANT to sleep with him. He can't really interact with people, he has almost no sense of humour, and simply can't seem to manage social situations a lot of the time. I don't think he'd have the necessary social skills to even get to that point, and perhaps not even the inclination to ever do so.
It's good to humanise him, because characters with mental illnesses SHOULD be shown as human and capable of emotion and decency, but I think there are other ways to do it than showing The Punisher hopping into bed with random strangers.
Yeah that's why it only works for me when he's in relationships with equally emotionally backwards characters like Elektra. Or women who live similarly extreme lives since they're the only people he could potentially have any future with, so it's the only time there's ever any real romantic tension or chance to see a different side of him
Well, I can guess I can see the random fling with Kim. She seems damaged herself in a way. Staying in a nothing town with a nothing future kind of indicates that, or that she simply doesn't have the money to leave.
I do like the sheriff. Wonder if he'll survive this little caper of the Punisher's.
It seems pretty clear that Frank is using sex to get to his main goal: "Lonely people like to talk." He's hardly got the social abilities to be a dinner-and-a-movie kind of guy, but it's also pretty clear that's not what Kim is looking for.
Kim might be a useful ally beyond this, so Frank has no reason to end their "relationship" before he's killed the people who need killing and is back out of town. She doesn't seem like the type who'd get attached enough to endanger either of them, either.
Still Ennis's writing, and while I like the other guy's art well enough -- I liked their work on Preacher, at any rate -- this just feels better for Punisher, I feel.
Maybe there's something else to it that I'm missing...?
