Have they explained why Jane Foster is speaking "Asgardian-speak?" It isn't always a thing. Eric Masterson, when he was "in charge" of power of Thor, spoke as he normally did. And now I have to admit I remember when Eric Masterson was "in charge" of being Thor.
I think Jason Aaron has explained that Mjolnir's magic has changed and is now able to do things it couldn't before. WHY it happened, i have no idea, but it may have to do with the whole Godbutcher arc.
Might be from when Dr. Strange drained the Odinpower from Thor and channeled it through Mjolnir to repair it during the JMS run. (I assume this is also how Odin returned with his full powers when Thor resurrected him during Fraction's run.)
Yeah, manner of speech was often something that got other people asking Eric things like, "Um, Thor, you okay? You sound a little different."
(And remembering Eric is nothing of which to feel ashamed! I miss the poor guy and am glad he's a playable character in Lego Marvel Avengers. His run as Thor is on the shelf a few feet away from me.)
I remember how the media was making a big fuss with "Captain America and Thor kiss!" and then it's like "Well... it's not that Cap and Thor. Carry on." Gotta drag out those fifteen minutes of fame somehow I suppose.
I have to give Bendis credit, not once in Miles' title did he ever do something like that and he had several opportunities to do so. Kudos to him for taking the higher ground.
With all the crap I give Bendis for him to actually tell a story without addressing the critics, that's impressive. Now if only Jason and Waid could learn from this.
Yeah there was a running gag with people going "That's in poor taste" because Peter Parker was (at the time) dead but I think that was as far as it went and it was treated more as a joke than anything else.
Except wasn't Miles created before the whole "pandering!" reached full force? like, sure, Miles had plenty of detractors, but let's not pretend it was the same as Fox News attacking Sam Wilson or people saying Thor promotes male genocide.
There was PLENTY of controversy over Miles when he was first announced. It was a huge deal in the news. Much more than the new Cap and Thor -- the latter I think barely registered a blip on the news radar.
It still strikes me as a ridiculously, unrealistically ungrateful on the part of the rescued people, though. I mean, if I get rescued from a burning building by firefighters I'm sure as hell not going to gripe that it wasn't Taylor Kinney helping me down the ladder.
I could maybe see someone organizing, say, a charity event or a network news interview being being disgruntled that the more famous heroes aren't the ones that showed up. Something that involves publicity rather than having one's freaking life saved.
I think it was Grant Morrison in JLA who had Kyle Rayner deal with Guy Gardner (?) making a disparaging comment about Kyle not being being the JLA's "real" Green Lantern by noting (with a suitably satisfied air)
"Save the world a few times, you ARE the real Green Lantern"
