or rather a very, very old one.

Marvel Comics was originally the publisher "Timely Comics", but that name hasn't been used in a long, long time.

This year, Marvel has announced that Timely Comics will be back on the shelves

This time as an imprint that sells the first three issues of a series in one collection for a mere $3.

  • Invincible Iron Man
  • All-New All-Different Avengers
  • All-New Inhumans
  • Carnage
  • Daredevil
  • Drax
  • Doctor Strange
  • Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
  • New Avengers
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Squadron Supreme
  • Totally Awesome Hulk
  • Ultimates
  • Uncanny Inhumans
  • Venom: Space Knight
  • Web Warriors

Seems like a sensible idea to me, I wonder if it might be linked to the announcement that certain WalMart's will be opening a dedicated graphic novel/comic section on a trial basis.

Hopefully this will inspire DC to bring back "More Fun Comics" too. Y'know, once they've looked up the meaning of the word "fun".

I kinda hope that somehow Marvel also brings back the Malibu line too. I'm probably dreaming there though, it is more likely that DC would learn what "fun" meant.

Still, it is always nice to see more titles on the market, even if technically they are the same titles from the same company in different brands. It still seems like a step towards growing the market again, and at least giving the illusion of a greater and wider market.

AS much as I would love to see the Ultraverse again I can't see that happening any time soon. IIRC while Marvel owns the characters and concepts now and can do anything they want with them they would have to pay a slight amount of royalties and that's enough to make Marvel refuse to ever use them again.

And I'll once again point out here that a number of the books that launched from the DCYou push are indeed fun. I feel the need to keep bringing this up because so many of those books, despite being exactly what fans are always asking for, are selling really badly, which just goes to show that we have the sorry comics industry we deserve.

actually, comic sales RARELY show REAL sales, only what retailers order.

The DCYou stuff was really great, and honestly if there really were low sales (I say if because of the obscure nature of digital sales numbers and the fact that they all got cancelled before the TPBs could start selling) I'd blame the fact that DCYou was a bunch of C-list titles, so of course they didn't sell Batman numbers.

Exactly. People look at the tentpole characters and titles to judge the tone of a company. They are the ones that get the media attention, they are the ones that stores put out front in the prime advertising slots. With all the big titles doing the grimdark, and the publicity for fun and goofy being solely around the Batman '66 -which was always its own thing- you can't blame the customer for thinking that DC was doing the grimdark weird stuff. Especially with them doing it on the Superman titles. I bought some of the smaller titles, mainly because of exposure on SD too, but as DC killed them or changed them back to grimdark I slowly gave up on them and on DC.

Odds that it won't come out on time? ;)

Based on those titles it seems to me that Marvel is trying to push some of their lower to mid tier titles to higher sales.

This is a pretty cool idea, I hope it works out. The 3-in-1 issue structure seems smart too, as it would turn modern trade writing into a simple two parter. I do wonder how the presumably quarterly release schedule might work out in attracting consistent readers though.

It's also kind of a weird lineup, to be honest. Carnage, Squadron Supreme, Scarlet Witch, Venom, and Web Warriors all strike me as particularly weird choices. Maybe not bad if Marvel is going for a little line diversity, but strange that they'd choose these titles and leave out a bunch of big names like Spidey (with three titles to choose from no less), Thor, Cap, Captain and Miss Marvel, X-Men (conspiracy theories aside) etc.
