This was from John Byrne's 'Captain America & Batman'. It's an Elseworlds story that takes place during World War II.

Its weird seeing the Joker in a nominal hero role.

Hero Joker is pretty great actually.....still a bit put off by the idea that Batman has no problem believing Joker can walk around from a ground zero atomic blast though.

This was set during a period where Batman and Robin never actually caught the Joker and sent him to jail, but rather the Joker would seemingly die in each of their meetings and somehow survive.

Besides, no dead body, no dead supervillain.

In their defence, Batman and Robin have never seen an atomic bomb before, though Batman was more genned up on the Manhattan project than most.

It's an early Atomic bomb. People DID survive the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I kind of like the idea that there's some things the Joker just won't do, whether that's working with the Nazi's or taking on the IRS.

I hear from a lot of people that this doesn't make sense, because the Joker is so psycho he shouldn't have a problem with Nazis. But it makes perfect sense to me if you take into account the Nazi's straight laced, fascist attitude and their treatment of the mentally ill.

I suspect that the Joker just doesn't find the Nazis funny.

Remember YTMNDs? The only one I liked was an image of the first page mixed with Hulk Hogan's theme ("I Am A Real American").

Missed opportunity for a Dr. Strangelove reference, they should've had Joker ride the bomb while yelling in joy.

This was fun, but I always felt that Joker anti-Nazi bit was a riff straight from the Rocketeer movie. Not that it's a bad thing to grab.

Also: remember when John Byrne knew how to use a pencil with a thickness less than an inch-wide?

Well also my understanding is Organized crime families did actually help with the war effort, so this attitude really did exist.
