DAREDEVIL #350: Vigilante morality
Mar. 29th, 2016 08:19 pmDAREDEVIL #350 is the end of a story by J.M. DeMatteis that is an important but underrated part of Daredevil's history. Foggy finds out Matt is Daredevil (and is furious) and it is the end of the "Jack Batlin" era. Also, Matt's teacher Stick returns to give Matt a lesson in vigilante morality.
The story starts with Matt coming to terms with how he accidentally killed a prostitute while tracking down the men who killed his father. This was part of Frank Miller's DAREDEVIL: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR miniseries that was put into Daredevil continuity. It turned out the prostitute survived and became Typhoid Mary because comics.

Matt encounters the Chaste. Non-evil ninjas who are the enemy of the Hand. Matt fights them, and it turns out they are really "visions" of other Daredevils. Yellow Daredevil, Red Daredevil, Black Armor Daredevil, and Angry Young Masked Matt from MAN WITHOUT FEAR. Matt freaks, thinking the other Daredevils will drive him into a catatonic state.

Stupid question: Is Stick Asian in the comics? There isn't anything to give his ethnicity. But, then again, I didn't know Linda Park (Wally West's girlfriend/wife) was Asian for years.
This story also covers some of why Stick trained Matt. Stick says something like "I didn't want to lead you AWAY from Matt Murdock. I wanted to lead you TO him." My fanboy speculation for the Netflix series is Stick thought Matt was going to be the next Iron Fist.
DAREDEVIL #344-350 is a good story, if heavy on the pathos. (A usual thing for J. M. DeMatteis.) It wraps up the "Jack Batlin" era, Matt is called out by Karen Page for faking his death, and Foggy Nelson *finally* finds out Matt is Daredevil (and is furious about it).

Date: 2016-04-01 03:36 am (UTC)Stick in the comics has a VERY different view on killing than Stick from the Netflix series, doesn't he?
Also it's not in the scans but I seem to remember, If I'm remembering it right...a man (not Matt) in the yellow DD costume still around at the end of this issue..?
