I like this story quite a bit. The only part that I really don't like, IIRC, is that we never actually see how the Joker tricks Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I missed the Emperor Joker story when it came out, and later hunted for it among back issues. In many ways---despite running in Superman and Action, instead of World's Finest or Superman/Batman--it's the best Superman/Batman story ever. Or rather, it's the logical progression of the combining of their two series, their two "worlds"---where the worst Batman villain got the powers of the most powerful Superman villain, and wasn't afraid to use them to their fullest extent.

From what I recall, the Superman/Batman title started not too long after this. Jeph Loeb was part of the Superman creative teams at the time - including some issues of Emperor Joker - and moved on from it to write S/B.
