At least there's some fucking backgrounds. Can you imagine all this with only occasional reminders that yes, this supposedly takes place inside of a room, and not the Negative Zone?
He totally does. But at least he's a somewhat understandable, semi-sympathetic asshole. We've all known friends or relatives, I dare say, that take what we do way more seriously than we do and worry way more about the consequences of it than us.
Though yeah, the way this is written he does just seem like a douche.
Yes, because clearly Superman doesn't take the threats to Earth as seriously as you, the bitter and unfulfilled dude who sits at home and watches the superheroes on TV. God forbid he doesn't instantly metamorphosis into humanity's saviour the second he crosses the town limits.
I hope he's one of the few people in Smallville who knows who he is. Because the cynical part of me assumes that if it was an open secret Clark visiting home would be nothing but an endless parade of people giving him shit because of their small town/big city resentment issues.
Yikes, imagine if they came to Clark to complain about the stereotypical small town American stuff.
"They're coming to take away our guns Clark, stop them!" "No Clark, I don't see why I should give a married license to that couple." "Why haven't you gotten rid of ISIS yet?" "Don't rock the boat Clark."
I am withe Pete on this. Maybe I am just friends with a lot of assholes, but I get it. Yeah Pete is an asshole, but he really cares for Clark and doesn't want to see Clark get hurt or Clark's life to end up as shitty as he feels his life in.
Well, I like the idea of "What Clark was like before he learned about Krypton." Clark usually mellows out when he learns about Krypton, with some exceptions.
I like Pete. As a character, I also like seeing Pete as someone who gets Clark to lose his cool. He's too concerned for him, in a way--and he's not perfect--but he's challenging Clark in unique ways, here, while not being infallible himself. I like that a lot.
I liked how Clark met Abin Sur and learned about Krypton from him. Back when Superboy (the adventures of Superman as a boy) was a thing, I always wanted him to meet and have an adventure or two with Abin Sur.
