You put this guy in charge, X-Men, when you could've had... could've had... uh...

And once again, Logan displays his years of training in the deadly a- no, wait, random slashing and snarling.
Somewhere, Ogun is shaking his head and going "why'd I bother? Why the hell did I bother?"

Well if Logan displayed a tenth of the skill he is supposed to have then he wouldn't be the MU Worf now would he?

Oh, I think that's a bit unfair. This was actually a pretty strong showing for Logan. He forced Captain America to cheat. I don't think there's many other street level characters who could pull that off.

Cap sucker punched him, he disarmed his shield, went for a wound strike to the abdomen because he's not trying to kill Cap, and then Cap cheated. All in all, this is a strong showing for Wolverine, fighting wise.

Terrible showing for Wolverine the character who left the X-Men so that kids wouldn't die -- to want to murder a kid. But this is AvX, so what would it be without terrible characterization somewhere?

Food for thought: because of his healing factor, Logan has survived physical trauma far in excess of pretty much any other human being on the planet, fairly frequently, for more than twice the average human lifespan. He's probably got the mother of all PTSD cases rattling around in his chrome-plated skull, and all his "berserker fury" is just him having several simultaneous PTSD freakouts because the current stressful situation is reminding him of several other half-repressed agonies. Thus, although trained by a master, his fighting style remains "flail around with sharp things on my arms, get hurt, flail around some more."

To be fair, when the sharp things are multiple razor-edged adamantium blades that's a pretty effective strategy. Cap is actually one of very few near street-level opponents with a defense that can actually work against them. Otherwise, anyone short of heavy-hitters with force fields or Hulk-level invulnerability gets sliced and diced.

I think Wolverines fighting skills are generally affected by the fact that he does not bother much about the defensive side, instead playing the "rabid aggression" card.

Also, in this situation, I suspect non-lethal fighting with an ally is not impossible, but its not Logans long suit either.

The AvX creative team WAS aware Rachel wasn't a new character or rookie X-Man, right? They DID know she's been an X-Man since the 1980s, right? RIGHT?

Given he'd written her before, Ed Brubaker really should.
And not for two or three pages, we're talking an entire freaking storyline.

I think that JRJr was the first X-artist to draw her, in fact, not long after he came on (not counting her brief appearance in Days of Future Past, that is).

Was the 'Hope is in five places at once' a thing to throw the Avengers off the scent, or was it really a trick Hope was pulling off? I can't recall.

As I remember it was to throw the Avengers off the scent and Wolverine smelled bullshit but then Cap happened.

It was a Hope thing, Rachel and Cyclops sent X-men to those five locations as well

That's impressive that Giant-Man snuck up on someone with super senses while being a giant man

His costume was freshly laundered; all that Logan could smell was the fresh scent of Crisp Linen fabric softener.

He probably snuck up Ant-Man sized, and then grew and struck before Logan could react.

Wolverine spent most of his time on the Avengers asking "What was that?" or similar. I don't think he ever displayed his super- acute senses.

Cap is being pretty unreasonable, but that makes sense because he's a Hydra agent.

man people werent exaggerating with how obsessed Logan was with killing Hope.

At that point in time Logan was just kind of obsessed with killing emotionally vulnerable youths in general.
Just a few months before he wanted to stabbify Wiccan, too.

At that point in time? He stabbed Rachel through the heart not long after she joined the X-Men to keep her from killing one of their most ruthless and deadly enemies.

Franklin Richards is like the only über-powerful mutant he hasn't tried to summarily execute for being "too dangerous to live" at one time or another.

Steve Rogers is a jerk, Wolverine is worse, Tony Stark is actually being pretty reasonable, and Cyclops seems to be too.

What is with the characterization here?

Like Civil War, it also seems like a case of misreading who the readers would support.

If Wolverine's not listening to you, why would you punch him once in the face and then expect him to listen to you? He just heals in five seconds and then he's angrier.

Now we know that his claws automatically retract when he gets bonked on the head, though.

When Wolverine wouldn't back down Steve was planning on subduing Logan and ditching him someplace inconvenient, like the Arctic.
