One item from the book that I find interesting in that it was left out of both the comic and the movie is that the text is explicit that the unicorn can't beat the red bull - even when the other unicorns come out of the sea, they avoid getting near the bull. However, when faced with a unicorn that isn't retreating from it, the red bull turns and swims into the sea itself until it disappears.
I guess it's arguably anticlimactic, but I think that development fits well with the trope-bending nature of the book.
