Brought back from the dead so we could have stories about Kryptonians and humans being horrible people. Because everyone sure was a-clamouring for the government of DC's Earth to be just as bad as Marvel's.
Brought back to live just so he can be a genocidal mass murderer more like it (and then they had him kill himself in front of his daughter so DC wouldn't actually have to deal with the fallout of Earth actually commuting genocide on 100,000 Kryptonians, men, women and children). Even Lex Luthor, who got amnesty for building the bomb who did it, got off scott-free. And Superman? Despite spending a year on New Krypton seemingly could care less about all his new allies and friends who were slaughtered. But since it was all Sam Lane's fault apparently the writers never had to actually ask any questions.
Man, James Robinson's dialogue went downhill when he came back from his Hollywood excursion. Starman was crisp and stylised, but his Jimmy voice... I mean, this is an excerpt from up there:
YEAH, CRAZY PLACE. BUT I MET MEN THERE. REAL MEN. I ESCAPED DEATH, TOO. COUPLE OF TIMES.
The mind boggles.
Does anyone else find it interesting that Sterling Gates was Geoff Johns' protege and was given some high profile runs around the time this came out, but vanished really early on in the Nu52, only to return recently to the licensed Supergirl comic?
James Robinson really seemed to be trying to refind his footing in comics upon his return (see Cry for Justice), although I did really like World of New Krypton with him and Greg Rucka.
I don't know what happened with Sterling Gates. I really liked him on Supergirl, but his projects since then have been much lower profile.
Im sorry, I've been In prison, there's no way in hell someone like Luthor is in gen pop and doesn't get got. I don't care how many people he has around him or what's promised on the outside, he would be dealt with for being the world's biggest snake. Money doesn't move people(in this case protect people) the way you might think
Yeah, ol' Lucy didn't really have much of a character outside of her old Silver-age persona of "Irritating Monster Sent To Torment Jimmy Olsen", did she...
I really enjoyed her characterization in the Supergirl show.
It took the good parts from this characterization (followed her father into the military, a bit resentful of Lois' success in Metropolis) but left out the unfortunate murderous Superwoman part and eventually made her a confidant of Kara's
This is what made me doubly-horrified at this guy's actions.
"Wh-why would you think this would be a good reaction? 'Ah! Large creature! Attack!' Why not just, IDK, swim away? You're faster and more durable than anything else in the environment." But yeah, the people are just marveling at their own power. They don't care.
It's kinda ironic that Superman complains about the whale being endangered, considering that Kryptonians are endangered themselves. If only they could get over that "Let's all live in one place where we can be slaughtered in one go" habit.
