"M'lady!" .... I never figured the Mole Man to be the Fedora-Neckbeard type. And yet, it makes sense. Small, fatty, rejected, poor fashion sense, "solitary pleasures", lives in the basement...

The whole bit of being ostracized and living in the underground but the 'fedora/m'lady' meme is pretty new (and the next cover has him literally tipping one as a reference to a semi-famous meme where the original subject has been harassed over).

I wonder if this is going to be a set up for a funny awkward date, or if this is going to be a commentary on the whole "maybe if you dated the violent madman, he wouldn't have gone on a shooting spree" thing.

It seems to be the latter. For one thing, the prior issue (#8) already saw SG on a series of funny dates (including one with a Sentinel). For another, SG started off trying to let MM down easy. Later on she said that she's so busy trying to be nice it's hard to directly say "No" (as it may hurt someone's feelings) and she said she admires that Nancy is capable of easily doing so. When I read that portion I felt like there should be a giant pop-up arrow and a sign saying "Important Lesson here, kids!"
