That's an incredibly sweet story and I actually really love it. And I love that Batman just knew, if he hadn't already, who the guy was, which kid he had saved. I love seeing him trying to be encouraging to kids, and to victims of violent crime, despite his own fearsome persona - that the fear is only for the bad guys, not for the people he's protecting. And it makes me really bummed out that the characters are obviously gonna get tanked and he just killed a dude under mind control. Sigh. They were marked for doom as soon as they showed up with those names, though.

I think someone once saying a way of knowing if Batman was In-Character was "can you imagine him taking time to help a scared child and make him feel better? if so, it is Batman"

Or he gives the fear speech to everyone.

"Sorry, what was that? You kind of swung away with the bad guy in mid-sentence. Is... is he still talking? He's swinging away, and I think he's still talking."

Think about how slowly his grappling hook is ascending for him to deliver that whole speech while still in earshot.

If I'm reading this right, then is that a flashback showing him in his modern costume?

Has Tom King been in the industry long? Between the great writer I can see here and the stellar work on Vision, I'm amazed he hasn't had more of a presence before.
