"KILL OR BE KILLED is our take on the vigilante killer genre, which I hope means it's not what people usually expect when they think of that genre. It's NOT about a guy whose parents—or wife and kids—are killed by the mob and now he's out for revenge. No, it's not about a hero, even, really...it's about a (mostly) average guy who is suddenly thrust into a situation he can barely understand—where for reasons I don't want to spoil, he is forced to kill bad people. Forced to become judge and executioner. And the series is about how he adapts to this secret dilemma, and how he learns to become a killer and survive.

But more than that, it's also, you know: "If you had to kill a bad person, who would you pick?" Like, is there someone whose death would have a real impact on society for the better? How hard is it to find someone who truly deserves to die? And what does killing people do to you, mentally and physically? Can you hide this side of yourself from your friends and loved ones?"

Basically the same thing when you boil them down to their core element, really.

Being rather uncharitable toward Satan with that comparison, aren't you?

Like the infamous "people die when they are killed," old anime meme. From back when dubs sucked, so that people ended up overidealizing subs to an unhealthy degree and fansubbers were under the impression that leaving some words untranslated made the translation more "pure" :P

This looks like a self-fanfic to me. A writer thinking about some shit from his past. Too weak to fight back, too scared of consequences to kill, too afraid to look bad if he becomes "no better than those he hates". Solution: The Devil makes me do it! I can kill all the bad people I choose, feel good about myself for doing so, and I have the perfect excuse: It's either me-the-good-guy who dies, or some scum society is better without. And hey, Devil, so I'm still the victim here.

It's pretty much what I expected given the genre.

Next issue comes out tomorrow, so be excited.

Also, have you read The Fade Out? I read the first volume and it seemed good, but I'm not sure about picking up the rest of the series. I got led astray by Fatale and that fell apart for me after a while.

I read the first two volumes of The Fade Out, but it was so long between reading the first and second volumes that I forgot half the story and mystery. So I'm going to wait and get the upcoming omnibus for the whole series and read it in one or two sittings.

I'm sort of with you with Fatale. Though I gave it a second chance and found it reads better in large chunks, if not its entirety in a short span (like Fade Out). I'll say this much: it has a hell of an ending.

Fatale definitely worked better as a large chunk, to me. I kind-of petered out after the third TPB, but was still curious so I ended up getting the two HC's. Reads way better.

This was a good read, but I have to admit that my mental soundtrack for it is mostly Hotline Miami music.

So, guy jumps from a roof trying to kill himself, lands in enough snow to survive the fall, thinks it's some sort of miracle. Then he imagines the devil is telling him he owes Hell for his life, and to start killing "bad" people in payment.

You know, I knew someone in real life that had something like that happen. jumped off a bridge, landed in the mud sand survived. I don't think she became a serial killer, though. I'm pretty sure she ended up working at a Bagel Nosh restaurant. Which is probably why no one made a comic book about her.

I don't even know what my point was.

Not everyone's life becomes an inspirational movie of the week just because they cheat death? I mean, I know someone who jumped off a bridge, got pulled out of the water by a passing boat, got clean and sober, and is a pretty good speaker at AA meetings, but it's not like he became a vigilante. AFAIK.

Honestly, considering that he was trying to kill himself and never asked Hell to save him in the first place, this is kinda bullshit.
