Sorry, OP, I skipped reading these scans because I haven't gotten around to starting this (I have a video game, a TV series, two graphic novels, and other Rebirth titles on my list of things to indulge in). I'll get around to it, but I am just wanting to know how this run is so far?
I'm hesitant to start anything Superman lately. He's one of my favourite characters for a lot of reasons, many of which are very personal. And he's been written so poorly these days imo. I had to put down Justice League (New 52) a few years ago when I saw how much of a moron he was in those issues -_-
I haven't read much beyond these scans, but honestly based on Tomasi's (and Gleason's) Batman and Robin run this will be a fantastic run. I can't believe that book got mostly ignored for Snyders "BatMess featuring: Joker Sue". Killed it in every way.
Though I do kind of want to see Gleason's take on Marvel characters, even if it broke up the team. I just really like his art style.
OH GOD THE REAL SUPERMAN IS BACK. THANK YOU, TOMASI.
Seriously, though, I am really enjoying Superman returning to form. I liked the idea of what Morrison started, but I just never quite clicked with the New 52 Superman.
Superman defies 'updating'. Sure, he has to deal with the changes in the newspaper biz, but his essence should never change: truth, justice, and you-know-what! ;)
The Rebirth titles are like DC lurking on this comm and message boards and realizing what they screwed up and now they're fixing it for all the characters. I'm really excited about Wonder Woman's direction lately.
I tabbed over to YouTube for the Superman: the Animated Series theme song after reading these scans. Nice!
+ Smart touch heading off any possible flag questions by adding that extended border thing.
++ The S-shaped belt buckle thing's an improvement over the diamond one, but it's kinda offset by the blue boots - what happened to the red ones? All they wanted to do was bring joy and happiness to readers by being colorful.
I guess the 'why is that flag aloft' variant, but apparently NASA really does have that special upside down L-shaped flagpole to keep the flag 'waving'.
I see Krypto continues to morph from breed to breed. Here he's...well, in the top panels of page 1 he's one of Mojo's Warwolves, apparently, and then he's a pitbull-looking thing, and then he's a sort of hound-mastiff cross?
I guess he can't really complain, since he spent most of the Silver Age looking like a giant albino rat.
And I can't help thinking he told Krypto to sit on the Eradicator so he could go off and pose in front of the camera without his dog staring at him. That, or he didn't want Krypto peeing on the leg of the lander.
