Kim & Kim #1 opens with them bounty hunting.
It goes like a scene before opening credits.
They don't see a cent of that $20k, though- the bounty ended up having been cancelled.
So they're getting some food a couple hours later, when some acquaintances walk in with an offer of help.
Later, they're out in space on the fraying end of their ropes.
There, Kim Q. decided that they should try and get Tom Quilt's bounty for themselves, to piss off her dad.
Kim D. agreed, because the bounty was ridiculous.
Off they went to Clovis, looking for leads.
They found many, none of them profitable.
With so little money left that they'd have to steal to get off-planet, they knew they'd have to do something responsible with it.
So they bought some liquor and watched the sun set.
That night, as Kim Q. was going for more booze, she found and captured Tom Quilt.
The Kims threw him in the back of their van, where he begged them not to turn him in. He just wanted to escape his life as one of El Scorcho's drug mules, he said, and go back home.
Then the Kims' friends from before showed up, citing their private client's will as the reason they should take Quilt.
A fight broke out.
(Columbus's wardrobe is very starkly colored.)
(Those are some reflexes.)
(Tom's something of a shapeshifter.)
The Kims left on that note, Kim D. saying that she knew where to find the Lady Babylon of repute that Tom was looking for.
(This's 6 of 24 pages from issue #1; #2 came out this month.
It's a four-issue mini. As a consequence of that, it drops you into the course of things, having characters catch you up as and when it makes sense for them to in the narrative- there's no time for full flashbacks for the reader to consume.
The stories of everyone involved're ongoing, informed by their past and present- it doesn't feel like we're coming in on the latest chapter, with everything before already done and available only for reference. That seems to be a bit of what the writer's said's informed Kim Q.'s characterization.)
