This looks great. Ah nostalgia.

And that's the X-Men 2099 right?

The nostalgia of seeing 90s! Scott and Jean being pretty awesome together is surprisingly overwhelming. Though, from these scans alone it seems like Jean is more useful in this book than she was in the original series. Less wires to trip over, maybe.

The blue and white Cyclops was a good tribute to Walt Simonson and X-FACTOR, even if it was just one character in one panel.

Jean's red and yellow costume is in there too. When they went into Logan's mind in the initial miniseries we saw all different variations of Wolverine from the comics, so I like that they're keeping up that trend.

Also, this issue distilled like four years of X-craziness into twenty-two easy to understand pages. Can this be Cable's official origin story now? It's nice and simplified while being really close to the original and actually makes sense this time around.

Hold up: the Mister Sinister of X-Men: The Animated Series wasn't empowered by Apocalypse, he mutated himself (as seen in the season 5 ep "Descent"). Or is this acting like that season -- which was done at the last minute by a different animation company (kinda like Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles) -- never happened (like... Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles)?

This is one of those weird legal things actually. See do to Fox having some control on the cartoon it can't legally be a continuation of the cartoon. But since the cartoon was so close to the comics anyway, the comics just use the feel of cartoon but due to legal issue pretend it's representing the comics of the era rather than the cartoon, so anything created for the cartoon cannot be referenced.

It's also kind of funny when you hear Chris Sims talk about the comic, and when someone brings up some part of the cartoon that might be referenced therein, he always says the comic 'is legally distinct' from the cartoon and not related to it (even though it clearly is in many ways).

At first I thought that was kind of weird. Saban made the cartoon, Saban's old assets were sold to Disney, Disney owns Marvel now, too, so why not just buy out whatever Fox has?

And then I remembered this is Fox, and they don't get along so well.
