Webcomic: Star Power

I want to share this awesome webcomic I've been following for a while, Star Power, written by Michael "Mookie" Terracciano (Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire) and with gorgeous art by Garth Graham (Comedity and Finder's Keepers)



Synopsis: "In the far future, a young astronomer on a distant space station is chosen to wield the Star Power. Now, as the last of the Star Powered Sentinels, she must protect and explore a galaxy far more dangerous and wondrous than she could have ever imagined."

Comic updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and about 15 issues are available to read on the site for those who want to binge.



Our story starts with Danica Maris, lab assistant on the space station Sanctuary Six.





Danica is hit by a bright beam of white light. When she wakes up, she's a little…different.



But she barely has time to figure out what happened when the space station is attacked by mercenaries called Void Angels.




Space battle! Danica uses her new light manipulation powers to damage the Void Angels's ships and they flee.




After she returns to the space station, Danica and her bosses try to figure out what's going on. She activates a sort of A.I companion, who gives her a little info dump.

Love this webcomic! I'm surprised it hasn't been shared before.

Yea, likewise! It's really great positive superhero stuff- in a well-done space opera setting to boot.

Like, there aren't just random aliens, all the background aliens are of species the writers thought out and have culture for. That's plenty of effort!

I know it has the right balance of a Marvel cosmic and star trek all in one. One thing I enjoy most is how all the aliens have a different anatomy over humanoid body types.

The aliens are mostly bipedal, but they still generally feel fairly alien and strike a nice balance. There's a lot more variation than you'd see in, say, Mass Effect, which isn't too terrible, but keeps its less humanoid aliens out of focus where possible.

Also, alien red pandas.

Like, different proportion on some of them. Different body types. And definite more head variation- in the control room page you'll see 3-4 different 'ear' setups.

There are a lot of things I like about this, from the bright color palette, the alien designs, and the sense of wonder the heroine feels from being in space. There is a lot of nice humor here and good writing, and I think I might have to play catch up with this series.

The reason I say GL/Nova is that she's intended to be one of many, unlike Quasar.

Kinda, chosen to be a Nova, ended up a Quasar by default.

Oh hey, I was just at a convention with them *yesterday* :)

I've been wanting to post something on it for awhile. I love Danica and her use of astronomy.

The 'dark star power' bit later on is great too.
