I love how Otto just misses Anna's point.

Every time he closes in on it his natural reaction is to veer away from the notion that he might have done something wrong.

Kind of sad Otto's character development regressed.

It's not really regression when this Otto never went through it. The original still did.

Technically from an-universe perspective but we're still going from a more complex and heroic Otto to one that better fits the original status quo.

If only by 'regressed' (technically never-had-that-development) Otto having to rationalize away 'heroic' Otto's erstwhile existence.

I agree. Superior Spiderman remains one of my favorite runs, primarily because of the way Otto was portrayed.

I suppose but I think Otto could have been restored to his post-Superior characterization and still exist as a foil to Spidey in one form or another.

I've made no secret of my dislike of Slott's writing but this this is a really great moment. I mean I don't feel Ana really carried the point far enough but at the very least she acknowledges what a monster Otto really was.

So thumbs up Mr. Slott you actually managed to make me like something you wrote for spiderman that hasn't happened in a long time.

I couldn't help but laugh at "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!"

At some point, I hope we get some Spider-Verse-ish shenanigans that allow Superior Spider-Man to confront Doc Ock, because at this point, why the hell not?

(Yes, I'm sure many of you have plenty of reasons, but still.)

This is one of those instances where corporate needs actively hampered long form or significant storytelling. Otto went out on an amazing high note. But corporate requires there be a Doctor Octopus. Even with this clever dodge, it feels like an active resistance to a character having a definitive end.

The story could stil work as a 'definitive' end to the character, like how 'Kraven's Last Hunt' was to Kraven even when he's still alive. However, considering how far back this was set up, and that the same person who writes this book also wrote 'Superior Spider-Man', I'm guessing (and hoping) this wasn't really a case of editorial mandate so much as this was Dan Slott writing the story he wanted to show (plus, having a story where almost everyone comes back from the dead and NOT including Otto would probably seem like a missed opportunity).

As much as I did love seeing Kraven in Squirrel Girl and Avengers Standoff, I still do question whether or not bringing him back was a good idea.

The same writer being behind both things does go a long way towards making it seem at least semi-planned, or at least not entirely corporate mandated.

Making Kraven sympathetic in recent comics feels forced given his past and treatment of his brother Chameleon.
