I Hope so too. I hope this is some elaborate plan set up by both of them to throw people off the trail... or yeah like you said. if there is anything Jessica Loved more than Luke it's her daughter, and it would take something huge for her to take her.
I mean, I can buy *misty* only being friends with Luke. She doesn't have a ton of history with Jessica. And Jessica's been annoyed at Other Jessica for ages. So that fit pretty well, too. And it was a very Luke Cage move to send other people first before risking all the drama of showing up himself.
but that's the thing... this is Alias. This reads like Alias, this feels like Alias. This is not Netflix's Jessica Jones inserted into the comics, this is Bendis Jessica Jones. THis is the Jessica Jones that inspired the Netflix version. I am usually iffy about interviews but, for once, i am inclined to believe Bendis when he said that he felt like going back to Alias, rather than this being something Marvel asked him to do.
he's just way better at street level characters, than he is at stuff like the Avengers. Even when he was writing the New Avengers, he kept trying to force them down to a level he could write, and it just felt wrong;
Whereas in comparison when he's writing something like Daredevil, Alias, or even Ultimate Spider-Man, he's in his element.
This. The thing that was '???' the most to me about New Avengers in particular was the constant attempts to get the Hood over as a major villain, when that arguably missed the point of the character super-hard, and.. The guy was just so beneath about 95% of the Avengers, even the lower-powered group Bendis typically used.
Yeah, I love having Jessica feel like herself again, and frankly serious problems between her and Luke feels a lot more truthful than the constant "Think about our baby, Baby" arguments where she was relegated to holding Danielle and worrying while Luke went about the manly work of bringing home the baconsuper-heroing. But I am not a fan of turning Misty Knight, one of the coolest characters in comics, into someone's bitchy romantic rival, particularly over the guy who was basically like a brother-in-law to her for years.
I'm glad that this is in the spirit of Alias, but sad about what that means for Jessica and her handle on her life. (Alias and Jessica having all her shit together don't really go hand in hand.) I'm also hoping that the problems between her and Luke are fixable and temporary, but we'll see.
The above sounds like I enjoyed this less than I did. I'm elated to have Jessica back in the comics.
You know, while I realize that Misty and Jess have never been close (to my knowledge), I can't help but notice a recurring theme in Bendis's work that so many people you think get along or who were BFF's have actually hated each other for years.
Makes me wonder about the relationships in his own life.
