Yeah, this part here is really weird. I'm guessing something's going to happen to our mystery Clark Kent at some point, and then post-Crisis Clark will step into his life as well somehow. Which annoys me. That was 52!Supermans life, after all.
I believe they may have wrote themselves into a corner with superman. They can't simply return to the old status quo without flat-out retconing Nu52, which would mean yet another crisis event. On top of that, previous superman writers, in their need to pretend their stories are "the story that changes the superman mythos forever! " burned a bunch of bridges that only made it harder for the next writer to come up with a way out.
I think that would lie more solidly on Editorial than the individual writers. They needed a way to clear the decks and figured they'd do an event to do that. And so they have and now they've returned from that. Inelegant? Perhaps. But in two years time, it'll be another footnote in Superman's nearly 80 year history and current readers will be like 'remember that time Superman died but didn't and it was a media frenzy' and 'oh yeah, right, and remember that time Superman for-real died and no one even blinked'?
oh, sure. My point was more that this story may look unnecessarily overcomplicated, but that is more because of the situation in which the character was left when the new creative team arrived.
Judging from the letter setting on Lois' name plate on her desk, people in the DCU have pretty bad vision problems, anyway. I mean, LOOK AT THAT THING. How did that make it to the page, guys?
I think they chalked it up to her being stressed over Superman's death and Make-up (in fact, when one of the male characters made a comment about Lois looking different, one of the women at Daily Planet jumped right in and told him to stop bothering Lois)
Even with that... shes' 10 years older AND she had a kid. Even if Lois won the genetic lottery, works out insanely well, and keeps her figure, 10 years and having a kid would cause SOME wear and tear so to speak... Fuck, Lex flipping Luthor doens't notice? PERRY WHITE doesn't notice?
I'm now wondering how Jon is going to fit into things domestically, since Nu52 Lois and Clark didn't have a 10 year old son. Is he going to have to pretend to be adopted, despite the fact they ARE his biological parents?
Are Lois and Clark going to have to fake a relationship in public as a charade for their actual pre-existing in another timeline's marriage?
"So... Mom... Dad... This is Jon, my son. This may look weird but..." "HALLELUJAH! I HAVE GRANDKIDS!" "Wait, you are okay with this?" "Well, i mean, i guess i should be furious to discover you have been hiding the fact we have a grandson for over ten years or concerned with the fact you may have been pregnant while underage or confused as to how you managed to keep this secret and still helping raise Jon. but you know what? The end result is that I FINALLY have a grandson to whom i can do grandfather things with"
I kid, but i am serious about them probably pretending they had a secret affair for over ten years and that they never told anyone about it.
What if... Lois finally owned that "Superman's girlfriend" nickname and had a public relationship with Post-Crisis Clark, but *only* in his Superman identity? Leaving Clark to be the stay-at-home dad back on the farm, and having him and Jon visit her in their heroic identities in Metropolis? Meanwhile, whatever this Nu52 Clark Kent is, he's left out in the cold (or free to date Cat Grant or Lori Lemaris or whoever)...
If Rebirth is a clean sweep, why couldn't they have just swept out everything during the Nu52 and present a new timeline? You don't need a big event to do that. You could even keep it a mystery and some of the heroes find out that the timeline was changed but they can't change it back (thank goodness!). This seems pretty convoluted for Superman and Lois.
Interesting that both the Nu52's Superman and Lois died and the public doesn't know it, and few people in the know care. Which is about right for that benighted universe, I expect.
This is obviously a temporary status quo until the mystery of who the Nu52 Superman/Lois Lane actually were is answered. I'm sure this will smooth itself out and make sense soon.
