Mr. Priest, those two interpretations of Batman are not contradictory.

There's literally no wrong way to write Batman anymore IMO. You can write him in any way you want and find any number of versions to back it up.

Which unfortunately shows Priest's ignorance. He might *prefer* one type of Batman, which is fine, but that doesn't mean others don't exist or are any less valid. Or that multiple types can't be combined.

The last issue of the miniseries "Turning Points" had the bad guy in the first issue saying "Batman punching me and Gordon arresting me were the best things for me in the long run."

It's not unheard of for a criminal to go straight after an encounter with Batman. Even "I'm going straight so the mean man in the bat costume won't hit me."

That's a lot of scene changes for the same conversation. How long does it take Batman to say, "Don't trust your father"?
