The eye-piece kinda reminds me of Libra, but he was decidedly, eh, less dressed in Starbrand and Nightmask. And also had his classic cloth blindfold. So, dunno. Only seen him listed as "mystery observer" too.
No, I mean the guy near the end who says "You poor fools. What a terrible lesson you've learned. You have everything to lose. You just don't know it yet."
OK, I'll admit it: I'd soured on Slott since BND, and also gotten a little weary of Allred, and this series had struck me as being more than a little twee, but... seeing Norrin's cards reflected in his face made me literally LOL.
See, that's the best way I could sell One More Day to redeem Peter.
Peter: Okay MJ, here's the deal. Mephisto offered to save Aunt May's life in exchange for rewriting it so that we were never married. However, I consulted with Dr. Strange before he showed up, and Strange informed me that if I do that, then it would transfer some of my metaphysical bad luck over to Mephisto, effectively neutering him for decades to come, maybe centuries.
MJ: And Mephisto doesn't realize this will happen?
Peter: He does not.
MJ: So, we were never married, but Aunt May lives, and Mephisto gets turned into a joke.
Peter: That's the long and short of it.
MJ: Is there a chance we can get together again on our own in the future?
Peter: I don't see why not.
MJ: Pete, whatever world, whatever timeline, I will always find you, and no Devil in this or any other world will change that. I say we go for it.
Peter: And that's why I married you (Well not for much longer but you know what I mean).
Honestly, I keep wanting that to end the way it did when Neron stole Wally (the Flash) and Linda's love for each other. Their love essentially corrupted Neron and made him nice, and he ended up begging them to take it back.
Also that scene with Surfer bluffing out the Grandmaster reminds me of Jotarto vs. Darby the Gambler, where Jotaro keeps raising the stakes and implying that he's cheating against Darby, and eventually causes him to have a nervous breakdown when its revealed Jotaro had a shitty hand.
Yeah, I actually just rewatched that scene on Youtube.
The set up is Darby is a gambler who can steal your soul if he beats you at Poker. He's going up against Jotaro, the hero of the arc, to win back the souls of his two friends (who were previously defeated). Darby has four kings (they picked some random kid out to cut the cards, but the kid and everyone else in the bar are working for Darby, so he gives Darby a winning hand, and Jotaro a shitty hand).
Jotaro doesn't look at his cards, he just sits there super stoic, wagers his soul, wagers the soul of his friend in a hospital to win back both souls, then raises the stakes by wagering his MOTHER'S soul, in exchange for Darby telling them the secret of Dio's (The big bad of the series and an insane Vampire who will kill you) power. He also lights a cigarette and gets a drink at hyper speed, implying he's cheating.
In the end Darby gets so freaked out he literally passes out before he can accept the wager. It's an awesome sequence.

Mephisto: Oh I planned this poorly.
