I remember really enjoying this series when I read it a few years back.

I think its a lot more mature than Fushigi Yugi proper.

I was impressed when I found out Watase was only 22 years old when she started writing Fushigi Yugi, but yeah while I haven't finished Genbu Kaiden, given what we know happens to Takiko in the end, the fact that she's older than Miaka and Yui, and that Watase herself is older, it's no surprise GK is a bit more mature.
