Totally Awesome Hulk is written by the guy that created Delphyne and who wrote the whole romance between them and even he has had Cho flirting with various ladies.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like Amadeus and Delphyne are together anymore. There are events that haven't been revealed yet over in Totally Awesome Hulk, such as how Maddy came back, so presumably that's in there too.

And, they did a pretty good job of having Teen disassociate himself with *some* form of face-heel-turn act... only for it to have not been that at all.

He neutralized one of the two Terrigen clouds (which were killing mutants, and Scott had been exposed to) in a way that keep it from harming anyone, mutant or inhuman, though also rendering it incapable of making new Inhumans.

Yea, that's the thing! Lots of people I've talked to have that reaction. Like, pretty much everyone.

I think other characters has actually suggested doing the same thing to the other cloud in a comic put in the interim too, with no-one reaction as if it was out of line, to make it weirder.

We- and the writers like Waid here- were being told he did this big villainous act that made even mutants view him as having gone too far without knowing the specifics, and then the act turns out to be something that's pretty darn reasonable (death cloud...) and seems objectionable mostly to Inhumans and everyone's just kinda confused.

The InHumans may have spread false information about the event to paint themselves as victims. Medusa has been hiring z-list down on their luck Mutants to fake attacks on New Attilan to garner sympathy for the NuHumans.

Technically Emma Frost did that and he was dead already, but everyone thinks Cyclops did it.

this is emma frost though, and old emma would have not given two cents about making the cloud kill inhumans. instead she just neutralized it. It is something totally in keeping with what he would do.

I started disliking him with X-Factor, issue 1, where he abandoned his wife and went off to be with Jean again, then told Jean she shouldn't contact the other X-Men because they were hanging around with Magneto, thus trying to control her by all but dictating whom she could associate with. I forget who was writing X-Factor back then, but it was some of the worst written drek I ever had the displeasure to waste money on.

Ditto. It was... awful. I rarely regret reading stuff but early X-Factor is up there. :/

The story opportunities they're ignoring with the O5 in the present continue to mystify and frustrate me.

So here's my theory - young Scott is lying about thinking they were being attacked. He saw the video broadcast from the first issue, and Amadeus Hulk was right there in the middle of it. He knew they had a Hulk, and he had plenty of time to look at the situation and notice the giant green guy wasn't there.

He also knows that everyone thinks he's going to grow up to be a villain (because editorial said everything thinks Adult!Scott did something unforgivable), and that the Champions might reject him because of it.

So what did Scott, a brilliant tactician with lousy social skills do? He tried to manipulate the situation to show off his heroism. And indeed, the deciding factor in their discussion of whether should be allowed in is his seemingly reflexive heroism (it's on an unscanned page).

Scott sucker-blasting Hulk a second time, though, was pretty dickish. All Amadeus did was call him skinny.

Scott's dickishness on that page pales beside's Amadeus which was textbook" You skinny, weak, litte runt, what are YOU going to do to stop me from doing what I want?"* and he demonstrated quite handily EXACTLY what he would do to stop him.

* Which admittedly is like an invocation to the karma deities of the universe for a cosmic level smacjdown within three seconds, right up there with "The non-powered one can do nothing to stop us, leave them" or "You are too weak to be worth killing"

I can't agree. Scott had already attacked him physically, and only barely apologized, so I'd say Amadeus was entitled to let off a bit of steam. You're not supposed physically retaliate to verbal attacks.

Suppose you get punched in the back of the head, and the guy who punched you then says that he thought you were attacking someone in the dark. You might reasonably have some choice words for this guy, so he punches you again, declares you were being a bully, and that he was standing up for himself.

I almost think that might be deliberate, there was certainly a "Getting to know each other " camping trip early in that run.. (though the new Teen Titans had an entire miniseries about a camping trip where some of them told their origin stories.

The trouble with the statement is that I don't think people ever fell out of love with Teen-Scott, it was adult Scott who was the divisive one.

With synthoids, I'd lean to the strait reading. Viv realizing out that what was said could be taken as offensive and pointedly checking if that was the intent.
