That's...way creepier visually than the Daleks-Disguised-As-Humanoids that have shown up on the show.

I think IDW's Star Trek:TNG series have some "likeness rights" issues as well. Guinan always shows up in shadow or with half her face covered, implying they can't have a character that looks like Whoopi Goldberg.

I’m so very lost, can anyone explain what’s happening here? Normally I follow both DW and Spurrier fine but apparently the combination is too much for me...

The Cyclors, a race of gods, ascended to a higher plane. Some Daleks snuck aboard for the ride, ascending with them, so now there's this godhead made up of Cyclor and Dalek. The Cyclors weren't able to completely ascend because they're still tethered to their worshipers, a species called the Overcaste. They're waiting for the Overcaste to die, upon which they'll take them with them to the higher dimensions, a reward for the faithful. The Daleks' plan is to kill all the Overcaste, so that the Cyclors will finally have no tether and thus fully ascend. Then all that's left in the godhead will be the Dalek part, thus creating a deadly Dalek God.
