Usually I hate to see someone's comments, no matter how amusing, be constantly used a punchline. Yet that comparison was so utterly insane that I still cannot comprehend why anyone would feel it was justified. Especially someone involved writing out the story they are telling.
I need a bit of context. Where did he say that "getting killed by the terrigen mist" was just like a peanut butter allergy? And why no one with a peanut allergy told him that was a very stupid analogy?
Pretty much yes, and since the Inhumans are following the cloud around in their big honking spaceship they can perfectly predict where it will go and swoop out any mutants in the way. You know because that's what members of an oppressed minority really WANT is to be outed just because somebody's death cloud is drifting over their home.
"The Terrigen clouds are not everywhere. There were two, now there’s just one. Their path is tracked on weather services — once the mutants realize they’re a problem, they’re easily avoidable. As soon as the Inhumans learn what’s happening, they immediately (like right that second) leap to help, moving mutants out of the cloud’s path. The mutants don’t have to touch Terrigen at all, which means the problem is really of a limited scale to them. So, the idea that the Inhumans should destroy their entire (20,000+ years) cultural legacy because mutants have a problem with Terrigen… I think it’s understandable that they would take a wait-and-see approach, and try to find another solution.
To explain another way — there are kids with deadly peanut allergies. We don’t implement a worldwide ban on peanut butter or Snickers. We just make sure those particular kids stay away from peanuts. This is that exact situation."
Which is an accurate description of the Inhumans perspective, which is what I think the quote is specifically about. Given that Soule has written 'Death of X' and 'Inhumans vs. Xmen' (not to mention the Inhumans title) where the Inhumans come off really, really badly? I don't think Soule is actually advocating for them particularly well on the actual page. I think he's set them up pretty succinctly as the bad guys, here.
I'm not sure what I was supposed to take from that video? That some Marvel staff like the Inhumans or at least said they did in a video promoting the event? I think Soule likes the Inhumans...but I also think he thinks they're in a pretty morally grey area. Take a look at the quote of his from the latest post about Auran...he doesn't think they're superheroes...they have something 'complex' going on. I don't think they're villains, but they ARE the antagonists in the IvX conflict.
As Jay pointed out on the Xplain the X-Men video reviews: a lot of this is coded about a group with privilege versus an oppressed minority. The X-Men's motivation is 'people are dying' and the Inhumans motivation is '..but, our powers!'. Yes, there's a religious component, but it's not presented as terribly compelling or really made the centerpiece of the argument...especially since we've seen that the cloud is neither the only source of Terrigen or even sacred to all enclaves of Inhumans.
We'll see where the event goes, but seeing as how we have the X men imprisoning the Inhumans and taking over New Attilan, and the plucky young Nuhumans Ms. marvel and Moon Girl fighting Magneto to rescue them and save their culture, not to mention the cover for the final issue with Emma, I think we're going to get another AvX where the X men are written as the villains even though they're fighting for the survival of their species.
I will be honest, I was tearing up a bit when the girl said her codename would have been Lucid.
And I keep harping on this a little bit, but this made it clear how good of a decision it was to remove Scott from the equation as it finally forces the other X-Men characters to face those decisions instead of just watching Scott solve the problem and then throw moralistic shade at him.
Honestly, I'm really curious if they WILL bring him back, or just abandon him to young Scott...as it's clear the original X-Men are never going back at this point.
As for Scott, I'm just hoping they restore the notion that he wasn't some sort of terrorist or monster...given that for years he's been getting pretty badly maligned for mostly trying to keep everyone safe.
Hey, never say never when it comes to the cyclical nature of comics. Just because they've stuck to their guns so far, there's nothing stopping some clown five or ten years from now trying to wrangle the universe into his own nostalgic image.
