That was my big problem with this What-If, actually. That it's not silly and pisstake-y *enough*. By its second half it basically turns into a standard F4 story.

Maybe Kirby wasn't as comfortable with flat-out goofiness as some of his fellow Marvel creators were, but I rather remember liking that "This Is A Plot?" short he created for one of the F4 annuals. If only he could've stretched that manic energy into a full issue...

IIRC, this was near the end of Kirby's second Marvel period (when he did his take on Black Panther, Captain America, 2001 and Machine Man, the Eternals, etc.), and I think that he was about to give Stan the big kiss-off over the non-return of his artwork. In other words, it's well after he introduced Funky Flashman in the Fourth World, and I'm surprised that he did this at all, no matter how much he needed the money.
