Marvel Universe: Millennial Visions

So, in the year 2000 (or maybe 2001, I forget), Marvel published X-Men: Millennial Visions (which I don't have scans for), where various creators showed various alternate futures (and a few alternate realities) for the X-men. It was popular enough that it inspired the comic Exiles, which featured one of the characters seen in these earths (for the record, it was Nocturne). So next year, they published more of these, also doing ones for the rest of the Marvel universe. These are a few of the more... notable ones.

In his gigantic state, Bill looks like a robot. Why? Why does he look like a robot in his gigantic state? Is because of nanites? Not sure I buy that.

What's the point of speculating a What If? if you're just going to make everything completely unrecognizable?

I mean, the concept of "everyone who isn't black dies" has definite potential. Look at how Y: The Last Man explored a potentially cheesy subject. This is a waste.

Misty's anime arm looks ugly here, but I think it has potential to become a techno version of Witchblade.

Well, that was Black Lightning's reasoning.

I just read someone complaining that no black superhero would ever say what Miles Morales said-- "I don't want to be black Spider-man, I just want to be Spider-man." So I guess there are real people who would really name themselves stuff like that.

the difference for Black Lightning is that white people still exist in his universe. So his statement is a political one.

If they're all dead, there's really no point.

Also, while i'm sure there are many who would say what Mile's said, any hero over 20 might meditate a little on why that could be some careless line of thought. Regardless, black adult celebrities say it all the time, we roll our eyes at them too.

The thing that really skeeves me out is how they are all more monstrous/dehumanized versions of the characters as well.

Couldn't help but notice they've effectively castrated Luke Cage and Bill Foster with these reinventions.

I have to assume that writers assigned to these "Grimdark Chronicles" had some sort of bet going and whoever lost had to grimdark Power Pack...

I do feel like, minus the grimdark elements, there is some merit to the story. A super powered family of grown up kids, drifted apart after tragedy, uniting together to once again defeat their old foes while trying to reconnect? Seems like an interesting idea to me.

I'm assuming Jack is gay in that verse and I'm interested in the idea. Katie seems to be Trying Too Hard.

Oh, it could totally work as a story. A broken family needing to come back together sets the stage for some amazing drama. Hell, it could even work with a fairly grim tone, shifting between lighter childhood flashbacks and the darker adult present.

EDIT: But not for Power Pack. Use new characters,

Before it devolved into a bitter slur against younger people who for some reason refuse to mortgage their drives and passions in order to delve into the excesses of consumerism and keep outdated economic models alive? I believe one of these (Professor W's X-men?) was the seed of the alternate universe that would give us Nocturne in the Exiles.

The meta writeup for mutant!Spider-man is hilarious. "I just wanted to write a nice and fun Spidey story and now he's terrible and everyone hates it."

And Osborn giving only TWO days of paid offtime for information leading to Spiderman's capture? That is CHEAP, son. Maybe him and Jameson are crossed in that verse.
