For all the flaws in the first Batman/Aliens, that flashback dream sequence completely redeems it. They even have Martha's pearls clatter to the ground in perfect Miller style.
I know there are sequels to this, but none of them involve that facehugger he just flung down into the abyss turning back up and doing what it do to one of those bats, does it?
I mean, surely there are better ways to dispose of evidence than just flinging it down a cave...
Never really got using xenomorphs as bioweapons. Drop them on a planet and it'd become uninhabitable for humans. You'd be the one stuck with clearing them out, and good luck with that. And using them against someone who's on the same planet as you is suicide.
The only way that would make sense is if you had some way of killing them off afterwards harmless to the environment but would kill them off. That is kind of implied as to what they were bred for in the films with the ship in alien/aliens being called a bomber in the supplemental materials. After all they'd wipe out the local population leaving the planet mostly undamaged so you could then use your bug spray and move in.
Problem is movie/comic villains are chronically incompetent and their attempts to acquire the life form to use as a weapon are always done in the most idiotic ways that cause a disaster that has to be cleaned up.
Dunno, not sure if that's the right disposable method, Bruce. It'd creep me out wondering if the thing survived and is crawling back up to get me! You should call Clark and get him to take care of it. He's had plenty of experience with alien creatures and keeps a zoo in the Fortress of Solitude, remember?
Given the not-so-subtle sexual and phallic imagery HR Geiger used in designing the Aliens, that cover is actually pretty hilarious to me. Just the way Batman's grabbing onto the Alien's...throat thingy.
Basically, I'm totally Rule 34ing this cover and I feel dirty about it.
In the comics the actual way they finally resorted to for exterminating Xenomorph hives was Berserker units. "A human intelligence locked into ten tons of heavily armed and armored exoskeleton." A big, nearly brainless, cyborg that homes in on a sacrificial trooper's (well, they do not always die) beacon and kills the queen.
And when that doesn't work they nuke it.
So, not really feasible way of taking back entire planets without making them unfit for human population.
They did have 'bug spray' of sorts too, but it was also deadly to people. And delivering it into hives required troops on the ground, even if it could be easily decontaminated from environment.
Agreed, 2Kill it with fire" seems not only thematically appropriate but an absolute necessity when it comes to dealing with xeno-parasites of unknown properties.
I was referring to what the original creators may have used them for. Even if they were completely unusable as a clear out a local population and claim a planet method they'd still work as a screw over an enemy planet for good. Of course it is all academic since the whole point of the franchise is aliens get loose and horror follows.
