Despite this lineup being generally marred by coming and going writers at the drop of a hat and utterly inconsistent art (it makes you long for the McKone and Grummett (sp?) pairing of John's arcs), I'm really starting to like Amy.
The 'stop staring at my chest, Eddie,' 'what? he wanted to know how he could help' dialogue is one of the more decent jokes I've read this year.
That's what I got from all 3 reactions from characters who don't currently have girlfriends. Amy, Virg, and Eddie will totally be competing for Lorena.
Eh, doesn't resemble too much the Aquagirl I remember, but I didn't read Sword of Atlantis.
Here, she reads too much like...well, frankly, there's the whole Latino stereotype that they're pushing here. This reads like "Hot-blooded Latino". Patience snaps and that 'famous' Latino temper unleashes. The language even has that kind of tone.
The Aquagirl I remember said things like "wild". She was a San Diego girl. She seemed..adventurous, enjoying the super-hero life, exuberant and precociously stubborn. Here, we have the quietly seductive statuesque chica, homewrecker and with a beautiful temper.
You're not wrong, the whole saucy latino schtick they were pushing last issue is very annyoing and I wish it would just go away quietly. I read the scenes pictured above a bit differently though. I thought Lorena was being portrayed as a seasoned heroine with a hands on approach that has neither the time nor the tolerance for childish bickering, especially if innocent lives are at stake. She's probably the most experienced and most level-headed of them all and I felt the scans posted did reflect that, with her being the voice of reason and the only one to see through the trap.
Though mostly I'm just glad she had something vaguely heroic to do, rather than being reduced to a face in a crowd scene or an extra in a rap video like previously.
I guess. I just feel that while Lorena definitely has some kick-ass experience with Aquaman, it shouldn't relegate her to being Ms. No-Nonsense. See, I'm conflicted here. It makes sense, especially since when Lorena was with Aquaman he was in an especially no-nonsense phase, which made for great exchanges. We saw she had some steel in her spine there. At the same time, by relegating her to Senior status it seems that they're ignoring her more fun-loving character. Also, I would think less yelling and more icy cold stares as befits an Aquaman-trained character.
Everyone looks better in a Gleason. :D Unless they're the focus character, everyone's established characterization tends to suffer quite a bit as part of a team book. If I absolutely have to choose, I think I'd take one that aknowledges her seniority and abilities over the bizarre telenovella love interest from last issue any day. Given the amount of undeserved ridicule characters from the Aquaman family often get, it's entirely likely that I'm just much more easy to please.
I'm really not into the art (those midriff tops piss me off too, I don't see many people wearing them anymore), but there are some nice moments there...
Am I gonna have to start picking up Teen Titans again? Say it ain't so!
Alas, I just looked at the Origins & Omens again and what do I see on the very last page? A dead Eddie underneath the pregnant Cassie shadow.
Also, while I'm on the subject of pregnant shadows, I will have to kick a bitch if it does turn out to be Cassie - although having said that I can't see who else it could be...
Yeah me too. I sure as hell don't want Eddie dead. He's too much fun. I'm hoping it's Kid Enternity who bites it. Just because he's also out there and had a team of somebodys on him after the Lincoln thing.
No. We don't. Unless you're actually at the beach. But even then the only time we're showing our stomachs is when we're wearing the bikini, and even the dresses/shirts they make to put over swimwear don't look like that.
...and we're not big on the stripes. This is just Fashion!fail every which way you look at it.
It's like the artist is trying to show skin to make them look good, because everything else is... BLAH.
To be fair, the fact that these guys wear flamboyant skintight costumes on a daily basis may have affected their sense of style. I mean, if your 'work' outfit is kinda flashy and out there, it follows naturally that your 'play' outfit would be kinda the same thing - like how businessmen tend to dress a little more formally than lifeguards on their respective days off.
Err...I love that everyone automatically looks at blue beetle for help, but I can't help but think he'd be a little less useless and a lot more witty. Anyhoo, aargh, lorena exploding like that screams a little too stereotypical. X( and why is Traci so...I dunno...damsel in distress like...or more like why is Jaime treating her like one? *sighs* at least Eddie doesn't annoy me anymore. He's the sunspot of this book.
And lol @kid Eternity. Though I really hope he becomes more useful and less ignored by the others. X(
it might just be taking a normal non-water breathing human underwater long term with no gear strikes him as very wrong.
Jaime's never really led anyone. He's taken charge when he had to, and he's had people ready to assist when help was needed, but I believe this is the first time he's ever been asked to make a spur of the moment battle plan that others are supposed to adhere to.
it should be his place though as the blue beetle. it always came across in his book as that he was going to be one of the good ones, if not a great hero and he's had experience with both planning on the fly (giganta with the nerve strikes) and with time and information (endgame) so the fact that he was that shocked was kinda weird for me.
The outfits are killing me, and why is one of them trying to look like a hooker-style where's Waldo?
My vote is: Still not that great, wth "keep Traci safe"? Is she a cripple now or something? And too many times in the past my hopes have been raised about this book getting better, only to be TRICKED every time. So still a no go for me.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

Patrick Gleason did her best, art-wise.
