The Wasp takes down Sentry

About a month ago, I really wanted to post a scene from Uncanny Avengers where Thor and Wasp had to face Sentry ressurected as a horseman of death. Sadly, four pages have already been posted and the scene was way too long, so I scrapped it. However, after I was reminded of Fallen Son, I decided to post the last two pages of it anyway to feel better.
   

The worm is a Chekov's Gun, it showed few issues before and tried to eat Wolverine. Again, it's a lot better with the build up. Also, that is just the best Wasp costume, I don't care what anybody says.

I think I like this moment a lot more than most people, because I see a certain poetic justice in it. An extremely overpowered character who has been retconned as being always there, gets taken out by character who actually has been there from the begining and was easily the weakest member of the team. And yeah, everything I read suggests Uncanny Avengers was a pretty crappy book but that alone is pretty cool.

I mostly know Jan from her long tenure as an effective team leader on the Avengers (East and West Coast) in the 80's, so I'm always irked when her skills get devalued.

I don't think I could have told you she had insect control powers (or in this case, handy alien space worm thingie control powers), but it makes sense she'd have access to Hank's various bits of kit and would most likely use them better than he would.

And when you say "Horsemen of Death", I'm guessing that' distinct from Death of Apocalypse's various "Four Horsemen" teams?

Not exactly. See, he got ressurected by Apocalypse Twins-son and daughter of Horseman of Pestilence and Archangel, raised by Kang. They murdered Celestial who was going to give Apocylpse's son Genocide his dad's mojo, stole it and used it to do ressurect Sentry, Daken, Banshee, and Grim Reaper, as part of their plan to remove all mutants from Earth that was supposed to get destroyed by Celestials, all would achieve their ultimate goal: Giving a finger to their adoptive dad. Yeah, I dunno.

Jan's insect control

So! It turns out that along with the wings, Hank also gave Jan antennae when he made her the Wasp so she could talk to ants too...the antennae atrophied because she never used them and when Hank was playing Hank Pym, Scientific Adventurer with the WCA he used his power to regrow them because enlarging something's size is basically the same as rejuvenating dead cells I guess, Hank? Okay, sure!

Anyway, like her super-strength when she shrinks it's one of those powers nobody ever remembers or uses but I guess technically she's still got it :)

Me too! She was so good, and it was so satisfying to see (former flirty, "frivolous," "weak" girl grows up, gets in touch with her inner leader and badass, and finds more varied uses for her abilities), which makes me so angry that contemporary writers overlook this part of her history. For me, it's like all the writers who keep returning Iceman and the Human Torch to their jokey, immature roots instead of letting their growth as people continue.

It might just be me, but Thor looks so wrong without a beard. Less like a God and more like the bassist of a sub-par 1980's hair metal band.

But that's old! He didn't get a beard until fairly late, his classic look is all smooth chin and flowing blond locks!
