(For those not familiar, Ned in 'Homecoming' is basically Ganke; a chubby Asian kid who is best friends with Spider-Man and builds with LEGOs.)

The only way I can care about the new Spider-Man movies is if they make this guy Hobgoblin. Not even age him up, I want 15-16 year old, high school Ned Leeds as the Hobgoblin. The collective WTF would be a sight to behold.

You guys want Miles' friends? Nice. Then do a movie about Miles, don't steal his supporting cast and give them to Peter.

That's literally better than nothing but still not equal to a live action MCU related film.

Well I'm not sure how Miles even warrants an MCU film at this point in the game.

They've done Peter Parker movie series twice before this. They just have to make the new kid following Tony Stark around be Miles.

They could even retroactively integrate the Garfield movies into the MCU.

That would be stronger than making yet another version of Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

They've done Batman twice as well but that doesn't mean having Azrael instead of Bruce would be a smart idea.

As it is there's not a whole lot to Miles as a character and by introducing him instead of Pete first without his origin as following the death of Peter there'd be even less to work with.

They could, but it would be a terrible idea. They actually were considering the possibility, until ASM 2 made Webb's reboot toxic. And honestly, it's still way too soon to introduce Miles. There is hardly any material to adapt now.

It is strange. I mean the 1989 Batman movie had a Vicki Vale who was obviously Silver St. Cloud. But both Vicki and Silver are Bruce Wayne love interests.

Would this be white-washing, appropriation or is there a better term for this stealing?

Whitewashing, presumably, would be casting a white actor as Ganke or Miles Morales. If Miles were far-and-away more recognizable and prominent than Peter Parker, and they made a movie starring the white Peter Parker anyways, I could also see an argument for that being whitewashing, but that's not the case.

I'm also not sure that 'appropriation,' works here. I usually see appropriation used to indicate repackaging aspects of a minority culture in a shallow way for consumption by those who aren't a part of that culture. I could be wrong, but I don't think African-Americans have any inherent cultural claim on having chubby Asian friends.

I think it's part of the Fox contract that Spiderman is always Peter Parker and that Peter Parker is always portrayed as a white male.

Sony, not Fox. Fox has the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool.

And I think that would be a foolishly restrictive contract. It denies both companies the ability to do stories with Miles or Miguel.

I'm just going to quote someone smarter than I:

"On the subject of Morales - I think that was actually in the contract Sony signed with Marvel. There can only be one Spider-Man, and that Spider-Man is Peter Parker. Peter Parker is always straight, white, and male.

It was drawn up and signed in the 90, so it does predate Miles Morales by decades, and wasn't made with that character in mind, but it's still binding".

Should be noted this isn't the first time Ned is asian he was in Spectacular, though a fairly different design.
