Back when the Hood first appeared (starring in his own Brian K. Vaughn-written mini-series), he was very much not this vengeful ambitious idiot he's now become. He was more defined by his *lack* of big ambitions - a two-bit crook who found a couple of magical artifacts and used them to commit petty crimes. This Kingpin-wannabe has no resemblance to that guy, and this point, being shot by the Punisher feels overdue.
