Oh Nick Spencer, just no. No to more of this mediocre title, no to forgettable and unrelateable take on the character, no to more tie-ins that are "essential" to Secret Empire, and no to Secret Empire.
Also, I find it amusing he said best take on Carol Danvers in years... which I assume he includes DeConnick as well since she is not that far removed from having written the character.
I wonder how much of that is Spencer and how much of it is Hector Alonzo telling him to play cheerleader? From what I've seen sales of the comic are pretty bad and if there is any title his masters at Disney are looking at it's ones like this and Black Panther, where there are movie projects being made with their names.
I thought I couldn't be less impressed by Mighty Captain Marvel, and then it played the Secret-Empire-tie-in card.
Also, while it's nice that Stohl thought to include a character who uses prostheses, every time I see that Glory girl I get distracted wondering how she manages to keep her balance tottering around on those obscenely impractical stilt-legs.
That's the best art I've seen on Captain Marvel in a long, long time. But I wonder why Blue Marvel doesn't appear anywhere in that comics. I'm not even asking for him to interact with Carol, but just appearing alongside the other characters would have been nice.
No. I felt the same way. It kinda sucks, true they are ALL kinda cocksure teens, but I don't think thats the real problem.
1) The uniforms make sense for the story but aren't really interesting to look at. 2) With no character in the scene I actually give a damn about I have no emotional attachment to these kids or any reason to believe they are even going to exist after this story arc ends. 3) Their age just reminds me of ALL the young new kids(new x-men, runaways, young avengers, initiative, etc) that I do care about who are not getting screen time.
Basically the structure of the story really stacks the deck against liking them.
Well fifth times the charm for Captain Marvels title or is this the sixth? Either way Don't !$ up Carol oh what am I saying you'll assuredly screw this up.
Which in my experience means that they're going to get summarily killed or reduced to wallpaper, because that ALWAYS happens to the newbies I like. Drat.
One question though, how many times did Glory overbalance trying to stand on those teeny points?
