Star Wars 33 is a done-in-one story and features a really lovely moment from Leia.



Luke and Leia were on a supply run for the Rebellion when they are ambushed by the Empire and end up stranded, without communications, or pretty much anything else, on an isolated island in a vast uncolonised ocean world.

Several weeks later, they are adapting to their circumstances... including a rather extreme form of fishing...



(I don't know who that image of Luke is modelled after, but I'm pretty sure it's not Mark Hamill, but gosh, he's pretty! Ahem, sorry, just having a shallow moment)

Ooooh! Right in the feels. The idea that from a good number of systems, Alderaan would be visible for at least several years, had never occurred to me!

It's from Animal House. The bit where John Belushi's character is trying to rally his friends with a rousing speech, and is getting historical details wrong.

It doesn't matter, if you were able to use a certain type of telescope (used in one episode of Space Battleship Yamato to look at images of Earth from before the Gamilon bombardment) you'd be able to see the planet as it was.

Technically correct I suppose, but I doubt that makes her feel any better.

Or perhaps, blowing up one of it's planets destabilised Alderaan's sun in short order and it went nova.

Nah.. Stars are tough critters. They have to be, their planets can do crazy shit. Look up "Jupiter's Grand Tack" sometime. We're lucky to be here.

Yes, that line is a bit off, but I imagine the absolute destruction of a planet by superlaser might be an observable event at interstellar distances, given the amount of energy that is involved, albeit briefly.

That would be a bit of a sad day for someone within a 50-ish LY bubble around Alderaan though. Look up at the night sky and see a green flash, knowing full well what it was.

I could imagine it even becoming a ritual for those who want to remember the event. Go to a system or area of space X light years from Alderaan, orient yourself towards the star, and remember.

However, bad writer, no cookie. The star of the Alderaan system is still shining, until the day it doesn't. Maybe when a Starkiller, Sun Crusher, or some other superweapon is used to annihilate it.

Hm, personally I have trouble picturing running away from home on Tatooine...

It's a harsh desert planet. Kids that run *die*.

I don't imagine running away from home necessarily requires "running." More like hopping on the Tatooine equivalent of Greyhound, like Earth runaways.

Well, nobody ever said that Luke was the brightest farm boy on Tatooine.

And I imagine Ben Kenobi probably intervened and brought Luke home whenever he tried to run. He was supposed to be keeping an eye on him after all.

Various other media (including this comic series) have shown that Ben kept a watchful eye on Luke and his safety, and that Luke did know Ben as the "Old Ben" that he mentions in ANH.

I've seen some fun headcanon that Luke is a lot more badass than we ever suspect because he survived growing up on Tattooine, and the level of casually pragmatic lethal practicality that that requires is never really mentioned because it's not needed for the plot, and most people just accept the fluffy-haired socially naive farmboy at face value. :)

This is, after all, a kid who casually mentions hunting Womp Rats.... vicious TWO METRE LONG rodents who travel in packs in a pretty flimsy looking sky hopper.

Spoilers for Ahsoka

Just finished the "Ahsoka," novel (which is pretty queer positive the costar is a young woman who explicitly crushes on Ahsoka, and Ahsoka gives some signs it's not totally one sided.)

At the end Bail and Ahsoka are discussing what to do with the refugees. Bail's first suggestion is that he can resettle them on Alderaan. There is a brief moment where I went "nooo..." before an alternate plan is suggested.
