I've been dreading the moment that the "legacy" characters will retake their positions, but it would be very satisfying if Odinson heroically discovered the worthiness within himself and lifted the hammer specifically in order to bash Supreme Leader's friggin' face with it.
Brainwashed or not, he seems capable of agency to me, and as such morally responsible for his personal actions (such as how he's treating Odinson here), if not for his Hydra allegiance in the general sense.
I do not, that is, read this character as deprived of free will, as a pawn to the Cube girl; just as corrupted by external forces, like e.g. real-life criminals whose personal ethics were shaped by growing up abusive and humiliating environments. (Not that I want to see criminals physically punished in the real world, of course; only that I still hold them to be moral agents).
It's a little silly to think that any writer at Marvel would've known Thor's apperance in the film (especially just his haircut) right when they started filming, or that Marvel would care enough to make a change like that a year in advance.
There's no conspiracy theory. Whenever something happens in the movie the comics will try to reflect it. Look what happened to Groot when GotG2 came out for one of the more blatant examples.
Haven't seen Dr. Strange yet or read any of his comics so couldn't say.
As for Spider-Man: Homecoming there's not a whole lot I can think of that can be done to change for the movie. But for nearly every other Spider-Man film there was some amount of synergy.
SM1 - Green Goblin had his armored look, Peter later developed organic webbing. SM2 - Doc Ock was literally everywhere and had a new redesigned suit for the movie. SM3 - Peter wore his black costume for a few months and Sandman had his own special arc. ASM - Lizard returned for his own special arc. ASM2 - Superior ended just in time for a new renumbering to coincide with the film and the main villain of the first arc was Electro.
There's a difference between "Marvel pushes in film synergy" (which few would argue with) and "Marvel is so concerned about film synergy that they'll make sure their writers slightly change a character's haircut almost a year and a half before the film with said haircut is released"
It's not a slight change. Thor has been 99% of the time long-haired and suddenly in the span of Marvel filming for a movie where he gets a new 'do the comic follows suit.
If that's the conclusion you want to jump to. But no, he's been like this for awhile now and it has more to do with his Unworthy story arc than the film or are you going to say that's movie synergy too?
So you assume anyway. And that assumption would be wrong since Aaron's arc has been leading up to that.
I mean, that story doesn't even include Sakaar, the Grandmaster or even Valkyrie.
The only thing alluding to the stuff in the film is Return to Planet Hulk and even then it's a follow up to the original with the same writer and it's Amadeus Hulk instead of Banner Hulk. There's also no Thor involved.
Thor is one of your biggest assets, in physical power, connections and reputation. He joined you because of your previous history and trust in your, and MjĂžlners, judgement. Alienating him like this seems to put your personal pique above the cause you espouse. Not that that is an unknown development in authoritarian rulers.
