Well, yes, but this isn't a suicide attempt as such... it's explicitly an attempt to cheat death and escape the inescapable. Not despair or surrender, but an optimism and drive that, in anyone other than a New God, would be completely insane.

That's why I love it so much. These sorts of conceptual stories are exactly what the New Gods are great for, but almost nobody can write them - even Kirby himself didn't always hit the mark IMO.
