Question: do domino masks work when you already know the person? I can see how they'd be useful if the wearer is a stranger. But I'd like to think I can recognize most people I know if they were wearing one. Especially given that I've sometimes recognized people from behind, based on their haircut and body type.

Wellll... they do remarkably little to disguise a person's voice when you're talking to them, especially less than a foot away. So I'm gonna go with "no".

Unless she's doing her gravel-gargling impersonation of Christian Bale as Batman. Which is a little disturbing.

I know of people having trouble recognizing long-time friends due to glasses and hairstyle, so yea, they should work for most people.

One thing is, once you do recognize someone, all the minor features click into place, but if you don't, your brain might not even be trying to associate them.

Actually, a domino mask could work perfectly for Kamala.

She's a shapeshifter. She could modify her cheekbones, grow a mole, add an extra inch to her height and alter her voice.

Just sayin'.

Have we seen Kamala use her powers in Mystique-like ways? She shifted to Carol early on, and then to her mother. Both were inadvertent. I don't think I've ever seen her knowingly use her powers to disguise herself as another person.

Human disguises are certainly within her power set, but she doesn't seem to have the training to intentionally pull it off (yet).

In any event, if she can change her appearance like that, then she doesn't need the mask at all.

See also the Will Payton Starman, who could rehsape his face and body and who didn't wear a mask because his "hero" face and physique were entirely different to his "civilian" ones.

There's not one answer, because there are different degrees of faceblindness. It depends on the viewer.

yeah, I'm one of those people who wouldn't be able to recognize them, if all they did was change their hairstyle, or clothing style.

I've been known to not even recognize my own brother while meeting him on the street, unless he's got his dog with him.

Sure, except that the point of the mask is to keep your identity secret from everyone. If the (say) 20% of the population with good recognition skills will immediately identify you, you're not going to wear the domino mask.

By way of analogy: suppose a certain type of cloth was--for weird genetic reasons-- completely transparent to some people. Would you ever willingly wear clothes made from that cloth, knowing that you'd be effectively naked for people with that gene?
