Wait, is this... a new angle on the vampire story? Color me intrigued!
Edit: Wait, this is vampires vs zombies? Nevermind. I was imagining a race of immortal man-children and women-children suddenly having to deal with the IRS for the first time.
Every time someone says Avatar on this site, I just think of the air-bender.
Yeah, though this book is bringing into prominent relief one of the things that bug me about a lot of vampire stories--for all their "I have lived for hundreds, THOUSANDS of years!" schtick, so many of them act like they're twenty-five at best. In my mind, vampires would be the stodgiest, grumpiest senior citizens around, kvetching about how nobody speaks Latin anymore and why they have to learn about computers or fax machines now, after CENTURIES of not needing them, what newfangled nonsense.
Consider this a second recommendation, because A) a huge part of it is about the vampires being confused by the 21st century, and B) It's really damn funny.
And consider the recommendation thirded. It's funny, interesting and on more than one level, surprisingly heartfelt. The montage of the vampires attempting to get invited into a nightclub, for example, is great.

That reminds me of the scene in "Love at First Bite" where the Romanian government seizes Dracula's castle.
"Master, I think they are from the government, they're wearing shoes."
Yeah, I mean, I get that zombie stories require some A-Grade stupidity to actually happen most of the time, but this takes the cake. If the Vampires are this stupid, the humans should have been able to take their resources and get them killed long ago. I mean I suppose they have some sort of mind control over their caretakers in order to ensure loyalty, but if they don't, this whole concept falls apart rather quickly, in that these Vampires should have been wiped out before the zombie apocalypse.
I guess we'll see some twist down the line how they were being exploited by mankind and attempts to use Vampires to solve human problems lead to the zombie outbreak, and maybe that could be interesting I suppose, but yeah, this series seems very silly.
The vampires have never had any real adversity or confluct in their unlives, and without adversity have grown spoilt and complacent. Every night is an opportunity to do whatever they want because no one ever really pointed out to them otherwise, and no one has ever been able to pose any serious harm to them before. Because they're both immortal and nigh invulnerable, no one really thought about long term consequences (because why should they, when there ARE no real long term consequences?) beyond what they get to eat that night.
Hence, why no one realised or paid attention to what was happening before that was too late.
Yeah, but the real question is why is that the case? Why are any humans invested in giving them this sort of treatment? If the caretakers are essentially running the Masquerade, for lack of a better term, what do they get out of it? Someone has to manage the day to day, and if the Vampires aren't doing it, who is and why? Is that discussed in the comic at all?
My guess is that we will eventually see some vampires who saw the subdead menace as the threat it was, but because vamps are inherently self-centered, just didn't bother to tell the others about the preparations they were making.
So... is this comic very clever and switching between "vrauwe" en "vrouwe" to showcase that this Willem is several centuries old and occasionally still uses an old Flemish accent... or is it just so extremely sloppy that is misspells "vrouwe" several times?

I would read that. And write that. But my thing is speculative slice of life.
