"Each month of this yearlong series, Groo and his faithful pooch, Rufferto, encounter a different acquaintance--or enemy--with the usual dire consequences! In #1, Groo crosses paths with Captain Ahax, the seaman with the world record for most ships sunk by the all-time stupidest character in comics! Brought to you by the award-winning team of Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier!"
The plot revolves around a little girl, Kayli, who is looking for her father - a member of the Groo cast (fortunately for her, it's not him). She stumbles upon Groo and they travel along while he wreaks havoc unintentionally.

Ahax, however, goes for broke and also sells the cargo beforehand, and also the ship, just waiting for the inevitable to happen. But it doesn't.

The pirates are attacked on their own ship by Groo. Like Ahax says, "you can always count on Groo to sink a ship... just not the right one!"
But Groo wants to check the cargo just to be sure it is safe.

Ahax's ship arrives without so much as a scratch. He is in deep trouble, since there is no cargo, the ship has been sold by a very low price and there's no way he can pay insurance, the crew (who received three times the going rate in order to sail with Groo) and the lost merchandise.

No wonder poor Ahax is sent to a madhouse instead of prison!
